Will Ford bring SUVs like Equator and Territory to India? What about re-launching mass-market products like the Freestyle and EcoSport?

Hetal Desai, Surat

Autocar India says: For Ford, re-entering the mass market segment in India is not on the cards. Ford India couldn’t cut it in our cut-throat mass-market segment when they were here and there are no plans to do that again. Furthermore, they don’t own the Sanand plant anymore which manufactured these mass markets models like the Figo, Aspire and Freestyle.

However, Ford is expected to bring the new Endeavour to India as there is a business case for that. Ford can manage with low volumes with this SUV as their margins are higher. As for the Territory, Ford could have brought it in as part of a joint venture with Chinese maker JMC but that doesn’t seem like it will happen. Ford has talked about introducing a low-cost EV and that is expected to be the company’s focus, at least initially.
