I’m a 25-year-old marketing executive and I’m keen on purchasing a new electric scooter for my office commute. My budget is around the Rs 1 lakh mark and I had shortlisted the TVS iQube. However, I recently read about the Ather 450X being offered in a low-cost variant, and I’m now confused between the two. Please help me choose.

Akash Gupta, New Delhi

Autocar India says: The TVS iQube is a well-made, reliable and easy-to-ride electric scooter that’ll take you to the office and back in comfort. We’ve been running a TVS iQube S in our long-term fleet for a while and it’s won our hearts for being a dependable commuter that also keeps the wallet happy. If space, comfort and practicality are all you want from your first electric scooter, the iQube is a no-brainer.

However, with a starting price of Rs 98,183 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Ather 450X presents itself as an interesting proposition. If style, bold colours, performance and sporty dynamics are what you seek in your EV, the Ather 450X is undoubtedly the scooter to go for, albeit you have to put up with a stiffer suspension and relatively cramped ergonomics. Be aware that the low-cost Ather EV makes some significant sacrifices to achieve its price, including losing many features and a very slow charging time.
