I want to buy a Skoda Superb,  but the negative after-sales service feedback I’ve come  across on the internet has put my decision on hold for the moment. Is it true that Skoda’s after-sales service is that bad?

Aravind JR, via email

AAA: It’s true that Skoda’s reputation for after-sales service is dubious and there have been lots of horror stories floating around in cyberspace. However, we feel that the after-sales is not horrific enough to stop  you from buying the Superb.  You may have to learn how to tackle your specific dealer, but bear in mind that there is new management at Skoda now whose main focus above everything else is to sort out service-related issues and restore customers’ confidence
in the brand. We hope they  will succeed.

BMW 320d v Audi A4 2.0TDI v Merc C250 CDI

The 320d is the sportiest of the lot and, save for some firmness, its ride is exceptional too.

Soft suspension helps the A4 2.0 TDIs low-speed ride. But there is a fair bit of up-and-down motion at speed.

The stiffly sprung C250 CDI has aflat ride and feels rock-solid at any speed.

3-series dash is neat and functional but quality not a big leap forward.

A4's cabin still looks modern and sophisticated. Quality is simply superb.

C-Class interiors feel better built than others. Dash design is a bit fussy.

Audi's spacious bench lacks thigh support.

BMW's seats are most supportive.

Rear seat space is the least in the C-Class.

C-Class seats too hard. Headrests powered.

BMW 3-series seats are most supportive.

Rear space and comfort is great too.

A4 comes with electronic handbrake

Twin sunroofs help make the C250 CDIs cabin airy.

Paddle shifters unique to the Merc.

Merc's command system looks the most dated.

320d's clear dials are typical BMW.
