The recent GST 2.0 reform has arrived at an opportune time, coinciding with the festive season. Motorcycles and scooters with engines below 350cc now fall under the 18 percent tax slab, down from the earlier 28 percent. This revision will serve as a major boon for buyers planning their purchases during this period. Here’s a list of five scooters that have benefited the most from the GST 2.0 transition.

Aprilia SR 175

Rs 10,478

The SR 175 succeeds the erstwhile SR 160. It was quietly launched at Rs 1,27,999, but its cost has now dropped to Rs 1,17,521 – reflecting a benefit of Rs 10,478. Among its key updates over the SR 160 are a bigger engine, RS 457-sourced TFT display and new colour schemes inspired by the RS.

Hero Xoom 160

Rs 11,602

The Hero Xoom 160 is the brand’s first maxi-scooter and the debut of liquid-cooling technology in Hero’s scooter line-up. It was launched earlier this year at Rs 1.49 lakh, though deliveries commenced only recently. It is now priced at Rs 1.37 lakh, reflecting a reduction of just under Rs 12,000.

Yamaha Aerox

Rs 12,780

The Aerox 155 gave India its first taste of a sporty maxi-scooter with a liquid-cooled engine at a fairly affordable price. It was launched with the intent to carve out a niche – something it has achieved to a fair extent – even prompting competitors like Hero to develop their own liquid-cooled maxi-scooters. The Yamaha Aerox 155 was earlier priced at Rs 1.54 lakh, but it now costs Rs 1.41 lakh, reflecting a benefit of over Rs 12,500.

Vespa 149 Dual Colour – Vespa Tech 149

The Vespa line-up occupies the pricier end of the 125-150cc scooter segment in India. Given its high base price, it was expected to benefit the most from the recent tax cut – and indeed, the entire Vespa range has become at least Rs 10,000 more affordable. The models considered here include several sub-variants positioned between them. The Vespa range now starts at Rs 1.10 lakh and goes up to Rs 1.94 lakh, compared to the earlier pricing of Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 2.12 lakh.

BMW C 400 GT

Rs 92,000

Despite having a “400” in its name, the C 400 GT is actually powered by a 350cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, placing it just below the 350cc category. The BMW C 400 GT has received the largest price cut – no surprise really, because it is the most expensive scooter on this list. It was earlier priced at Rs 11.75 lakh, but with the implementation of GST 2.0, its price has dropped to Rs 10.83 lakh. Despite a reduction of Rs 92,000, it remains a thoroughly indulgent purchase.

Honourable mentions:

Keeway Vieste 300i / Sixties 300

Rs 22,750-23,000

Both these models have received substantial price cuts of over Rs 22,000, but they do not make it to the final list due to Keeway’s extremely minuscule sales and service touchpoints. However, earlier, these models were priced at Rs 3.25 and 3.30 lakh, respectively. Now, after GST 2.0 implementation, their prices have dropped to Rs 3.02 lakh (Vieste 300i) and 3.07 lakh (Sixties 300).
