I am looking for a 5-seater or 7-seater car under Rs 30 lakh. My annual running will be around 10,000km, including approximately 500km of highway driving every quarter. I am looking for a top-end petrol automatic variant, with fuel efficiency, spaciousness and performance as my main priorities, in that order.

With 10,000 km a year plus quarterly 500 km highway runs, a petrol automatic is the right choice. Your priorities are fuel efficiency first, then space, then power. That points you towards a hybrid, because it will give you the best fuel economy in city driving without sacrificing performance on the highway.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the best fit. It is a full hybrid, so it delivers excellent fuel efficiency in city conditions, and the petrol engine is strong enough for highway driving. It is also spacious enough for a family, and the hybrid system keeps running costs low over time. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid is mechanically identical, but the Victoris has a slightly more premium interior and a better feature list at a similar price. However, the boot space in both cars is small as the hybrid battery eats into it.

If you need a 7 seater, the Kia Carens is the better option. It is spacious, comfortable and well equipped, but it will not match the Victoris Hybrid for fuel efficiency.

Go for the Victoris Hybrid if fuel economy is your top priority. Choose the Carens only if you genuinely need seven seats.

Currently, I own a Honda City V CVT. For me, this is the best car. I have driven around 16,000 km in last 2 years. However, now my running has increased to 200 km per day. I find EV more suitable for future. Kindly recommend me a good reliable EV or should I go for a diesel or strong hybrid?

With 200km a day, an EV only makes sense if you have reliable home charging and your usage is mostly predictable. Then too, such high usage will require frequent charging, which in turn will take a toll on battery health sooner, and this affects performance, range and resale value. A diesel or strong hybrid is the more practical choice for your usage - the diesel being better suited to greater highway use, and the hybrid to greater city use. The Kia Seltos diesel automatic is the best all-rounder. It is refined, efficient and will handle your daily mileage with ease. A strong hybrid like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is worth considering if your driving is a mix of city and highway, but at 200km a day, the diesel will still be more cost-effective. The Honda City Hybrid is a good car, but it is not as efficient on the highway as a diesel.

I need help choosing between the Victoris LXI MT and Brezza ZXI MT (1.5-litre petrol). I would appreciate some suggestions. We had decided to get the Brezza ZXI MT with the 1.5-litre petrol engine. The dealer quoted an on-road price of Rs. 13,32,491. When we asked for a discount, they offered us the Victoris LXI MT instead. The price quoted for the Victoris after the discount is Rs. 13,00,000 on-road, along with a free Rs. 6,000 reverse parking camera and Rs. 40,000 worth of diamond-cut alloy wheels. Now I am a bit confused about which one to get. The car is for my dad, who drives around 50 km daily. We currently have a 2014 Hyundai Grand i10.

The Victoris and Brezza are based on the same platform and share several bits, including their 1.5 petrol powertrain. The Brezza is sub-4-meters in length, whereas the Victoris is a bit longer. The Victoris has a more appealing two-tone interior, and even in LXI guise, it covers the basics well. If you're getting the Victoris at a lower price than the Brezza, it is certainly something that you must seriously consider.Alternatively, you could consider the Brezza turbo version, which is more affordable than the 1.5 version, with more performance while the controls are still light and easy. The ZXI turbo will increase the price gap with the Victoris and is better value. However, if the turbo isn't something that you want, then the Victoris is the one to go for.

Hi, I have been using a sedan for the past 12 years. I want to purchase a midsize SUV for a usage of around 250 to 500 km per month and a long trip once in a quarter. I have shortlisted Creta, Kushaq, Elevate and Hyryder. My budget is between Rs. 16 lakh and 18 lakh. I want to use the car for the next 10 years. I want a car with a spacious cabin that has enough leg room and offers good riding comfort. Suggest me such a car.

With your low monthly running and long-term ownership plan, petrol is the right choice. The Honda Elevate is the best fit here. It offers a spacious cabin with good rear legroom, a comfortable ride and Honda’s reputation for long-term reliability. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and easy to live with, and the car is well suited to both city driving and occasional long trips. The Hyundai Creta is also a strong option with a more premium cabin and a slightly more comfortable ride, but the Elevate offers a bit more performance for highway use. The Skoda Kushaq is the driver’s car of the lot, but it is not as spacious as the rest. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid is a good, no-nonsense altenative. Go for the Elevate petrol CVT if you want an automatic, or the manual if you prefer to drive. It is the car you are most likely to be happy with after 10 years.

I am confused between the Elevate and the Creta. Help me choose the right car for my usage. Please be practical and challenge my assumptions. My situation: I am 31 and work as a software developer. I currently work from home in Balsane, Dhule, but I am moving to Mumbai around March. My wife and I are expecting a baby in February. My parents live in a village where local transport is poor. The AC is usually on, and on long trips, the car will have my wife, baby, and luggage. Budget: Rs. 6-9 lakh on-road. I am willing to spend more only if it is genuinely worth it. Shortlist: - Tiago XE Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart CNG - Brezza LXi turbo-petrol Please tell me: 1. Which one should I buy and why? 2. Petrol vs CNG for my usage? The CNG premium is around Rs. 1 lakh, and the nearby village pump may open around Diwali, but this is not guaranteed. 3. What real-world mileage can I expect with the AC on? 4. Please consider loan interest, fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, and resale value. 5. Is the Brezza worth the extra money? 6. Give me one final choice and tell me what I should avoid.

The Brezza LXI Turbo is far superior to the Punch and Tiago as far as smoothness, performance, and cabin space are concerned. It is also backed by Maruti's widespread support network, and the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. The on-road cost of the Brezza LXI will fall within your Rs 9 lakh budget, and even though you might miss a few features, it still feels worth opting for. Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Dzire VXI MT for its large boot, comfy ride and strong fuel efficiency.
