I am looking to buy a car in the Rs 20-30 lakh budget. My driving is mostly in the city, and I cover around 50km every weekday, with occasional driving on Saturdays. I want a car with good after-sales service and decent fuel efficiency for city use. Most of my commute is along the Coastal Road from Bandra East to Fort in Mumbai. I am considering the Kia Seltos 2026 X-Line and the Tata Harrier EV, but I'm open to other suggestions if there's a better option in this price range. I have already ruled out the Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Honda City, and I don't want to buy a Maruti Suzuki.

If you can charge at home, go for the Hyundai Creta Electric. Your 50km Mumbai city run suits an EV perfectly, and this one will do the coastal road crawl very smoothly and deal with stop-start traffic well, thanks to its nicely tuned one-pedal driving mode. Hyundai’s service consistency in Mumbai is better than Tata’s today, and the Creta’s size is easier to park than a Harrier. Running costs in the city drop sharply versus petrol or diesel, and your budget will comfortably get you the larger 51.4kWh battery, which, as per our testing, delivers a combined real-world range of 430km.

The Kia Seltos is a fine pick only if you cannot charge at home or at the office. In that case, pick the 1.5 NA IVT combo for the most seamless drive in the city. Kia’s service is also generally hassle-free.

One honest catch with the Creta Electric is that you need a reliable charging point at home or work, and the upfront cost is higher than that of a petrol Seltos. If you have a fixed parking spot with a plug, it is the easiest, cheapest way to do your daily Bandra East to Fort grind.

I am confused between the Kia Seltos NA Petrol HTK manual and the MG Windsor EV Exclusive Pro. The rising cost of petrol and ethanol blending are my concerns regarding the Seltos, while the year-on-year reduction in battery state of health (SOH) is my concern regarding the Windsor (what if the range drops by 20% in 4-5 years?).

Pick the MG Windsor EV Exclusive Pro, because your main worry is fuel price and ethanol - an EV sidesteps both and makes daily running far cheaper if you can charge at home. In city use, an EV is happier in traffic and with the AC on, and even if the battery loses 15-20% range in 4-5 years, most owners still have more than enough for a normal weekday. MG usually backs the battery for many years, so you are covered if degradation is abnormal.The Seltos 1.5 NA is solid and E20-ready, so ethanol itself is not a deal-breaker. But mileage does dip a bit with higher ethanol, and if your monthly running is high, fuel bills will sting. Also, a manual Seltos in heavy traffic will tire you sooner than the EV’s one-pedal ease.The point to consider with the Windsor is highway convenience and charging access. If you do frequent long trips or cannot install a home charger, the Seltos will be simpler to live with today. But if your life is mostly city with occasional trips and you can plug in at home, the Windsor EV suits your concerns better and will cost less to run over time.

I am planning to buy an SUV by the end of this year in the Rs. 25 lakh price range. I like the VW Taigun, Kia Seltos, and Tata Sierra. I prefer performance over mileage. Kindly suggest.

Pick the Kia Seltos mid variant. With half your running on highways, the Seltos feels calmer at speed, gives you more confidence, packs in more performance, and, as you mentioned, the cabin is more premium. At 1,000 km a month, the Victoris' better mileage likely saves only around Rs. 1,000-2,000 monthly, so the nicer drive and cabin may be worth more.Go mid variant rather than base-plus-accessories. Safety and basic features like a proper touchscreen with Android Auto, rear camera, cruise control and more come integrated, work reliably, and stay within the standard warranty. Aftermarket bits rarely work as well, and you cannot add some safety features later.If your main priority is fuel efficiency, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris will help keep costs low. Just know it is not as quick for highway overtakes and does not feel as rich inside. For your city-highway split, the Seltos mid variant is the sweeter long-term pick.

Between the German twins, the choice largely comes down to personal preference, as they share the same engines, gearboxes and underpinnings. We slightly prefer the Kushaq for its cleaner design, excellent ride and handling balance and overall value proposition.As for the DSG, it isn't as big a concern as it once was. The current DSGs are far more robust than the earlier units, but if your driving is predominantly in bumper-to-bumper NCR traffic, a torque-converter automatic is still the smoother and more relaxed option over the long term. If you want to stay with a German SUV but avoid the DSG altogether, the 1.0 TSI automatic in the Kushaq and Taigun now comes with an 8-speed Aisin torque-converter, which is smooth, refined and better suited to heavy city traffic.Coming from the S-Cross Petrol, you'll notice a significant step up in performance, cabin quality, safety and driving dynamics with either car.

Hi, I own a Wagon R 1.0 liter engine. I bought it in November 2025. I had done 2 free services of it. My car gives me about 13-15 kmpl in city driving when the AC is on. I drive at a speed of about 60 km in the city. Is this average ok? If not, then what should I do? My daily ride is about 20 km.

A city fuel efficiency of 13-15kpl with the air conditioning on is slightly on the lower side for a Wagon R 1.0, but it isn't necessarily a cause for concern, especially if you're driving in Lucknow's city traffic with frequent stops and the AC running throughout your journey.Your 20km daily commute should be enough for the engine to reach its normal operating temperature, but fuel efficiency can still vary depending on traffic conditions, idling time and driving style. We'd recommend checking that your tyre pressures are maintained at the manufacturer's recommended levels, avoiding hard acceleration and excessive idling, and using good-quality fuel from reputed fuel stations.

Go for the Toyota Innova HyCross. For a family, it simply works better as the cabin is roomier, the third row is actually usable for adults, the ride is smoother, and the hybrid saves a lot of fuel in city traffic where most family cars spend their time. Long trips feel easier too, and Toyota’s hassle-free ownership and resale help over years.Pick the Hyundai Alcazar only if you’re on a tighter budget or you want a slightly smaller, easier-to-park 3-row. It’s great for four or five with the third row used occasionally, and the diesel suits heavy highway use. But the last row and boot are tighter, and it doesn’t feel as plush or relaxed on bad roads.One honest trade-off with the Innova HyCross is the higher price and possible waiting period, and the boot with all three rows up isn’t huge. If that stretch and wait are okay, it’s the better family car overall.
