Which commuter bike to get for city use?

There are a number of commuters both from home-grown manufacturers as well as Japanese giants available today.

I am looking for a reliable, comfortable and practical commuter motorcycle that will be able to handle my daily 20km round trip to the office. Technological features aren’t a priority, but I value safety features. Please suggest an ideal offering or two.
