The Hyundai Exter is the one we think she should pick. If she's comfortable with an automatic gearbox, we would recommend one, as it will make life in the city much easier. On a budget of Rs 10 lakh, the HX6 AMT seems like the right fit. It falls in that price range and is equipped with enough creature comforts to make life a bit easier.

It fits her brief because one sits higher than in most small cars, so the view out is clear, which helps a shorter driver judge gaps and turns. The Exter is small on the outside, and the steering is light, so parking and U-turns are simple even in crowded lanes. Hyundai’s AMT is smooth enough for daily use, and rear parking sensors are standard, which adds confidence when backing into tight slots.

A couple of trade-offs to keep in mind. Like all AMTs, there is a small pause between gear changes if you press the accelerator hard, so quick moves need a gentle foot. Also, this engine is happiest at city speeds; fast highway runs feel just okay, not exciting.

If she prefers a tougher feel and even more ground clearance for broken roads and tall speed breakers, look at the Tata Punch AMT within your budget. It rides well over bad patches and also offers a high seating position, though its AMT feels a bit slower in traffic. If you want to keep costs as low as possible and have a very upright seat that short drivers love, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 AGS is the easiest to see out of and park, but it feels basic and is not the best for long highway use.

I want to buy a new car and have shortlisted the Tata Tiago CNG AMT and the Hyundai Exter CNG Manual. My primary requirements are fuel efficiency and driving comfort. I also considered the Tata Tiago EV, but I am somewhat apprehensive about buying an EV due to range anxiety and the relatively limited driving range. I do not have the budget for higher-range EVs. My usage will be predominantly in the city, with an expected daily running of around 30-40 km. I would appreciate your suggestions on which option would be the better choice for my needs.

If you can arrange for home charging, the Tiago EV is an excellent pick. It is very user-friendly, and its driving dynamics are very sorted. Expect around 200km on a single charge with the 24kWh battery version, and around 150-160km with the smaller battery version, so with 30-40km daily usage, you will barely need to charge the vehicle twice or thrice a week. However, in the absence of home charging, we'd recommend you to opt for the Exter instead, simply for its smoother and refined engine, lighter controls, and higher seating. Sure, the Tiago CNG is likely to be more efficient, but the Exter CNG doesn't fall behind. Expect the Exter CNG to return around 22km/kg in the city and 30km/kg on the highway.

I currently own a 2018 Ford EcoSport Titanium Diesel MT. Since the car is nearing its 10-year permissible period in Delhi, I am planning to sell it and buy a new one without spending too much from my own pocket. I am considering the Wagon R ZXi 1.2 and the new Tata Punch 2026 base model. Please help me decide which would be the better car. I drive mostly in the city and occasionally go on highway trips.

The Tata Punch would be the recommendation here. Coming from a Ford EcoSport, the Punch will feel like a more natural replacement. It offers a higher seating position, a more SUV-like driving experience and a reassuringly solid feel on the road. It is also better suited to occasional highway trips, where its stability and overall comfort are superior to the Wagon R.The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 scores highly on practicality, fuel efficiency and ease of driving in the city. It is also likely to be cheaper to buy and maintain. However, it feels like a step down from an EcoSport in terms of build, road presence and overall driving experience.Since you are looking to minimise additional expenditure, the Wagon R makes sense from a purely financial perspective. But if the budget allows, the Punch is the car that will feel more like an upgrade rather than a compromise.

The Skoda Kushaq or Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 TSI Automatic would be the top recommendations here.Since your usage is predominantly on highways, the strengths of these two SUVs align very well with your requirements. Both feel stable and confidence-inspiring at higher speeds, offer comfortable ride quality and have strong safety credentials. Their turbo-petrol engines deliver a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency, while the new 8-speed automatic transmission should further improve efficiency and drivability. They also represent a substantial upgrade over the Wagon R in terms of refinement, comfort and long-distance cruising ability.Another strong option is the Honda Elevate CVT. It may not feel as sporty or engaging to drive as the Skoda and Volkswagen twins, but it excels in comfort, reliability and ease of ownership. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is smooth and proven, while maintenance costs are likely to be among the lowest in the segment.

Pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO. At around Rs. 20 lakh, it gives you the best mix of space, strong performance and safety, and it is far easier to live with every day than the Thar Roxx while being a better value than a low or mid Hector variant. You also get both petrol and diesel choices, so you can match it to your running.Fuel choice is simple. Go petrol if most of your use is in the city or your running is under about 1,200 km a month. It is quieter, has fewer policy worries, and resale stays safe even if some cities tighten diesel rules. Pick diesel only if you drive long highway distances often, want a longer tank range, or haul a full family with luggage regularly.The only real downside with the XUV 7XO is that the fanciest features push you beyond Rs. 20 lakh, and there may be a wait period. If you mainly want a rugged toy, the Thar Roxx is great, but for family life, the XUV 7XO fits better.

I am confused between buying Skoda Kylaq and Kia Seltos. Please suggest.

Buy the Kia Seltos. It is simply easier to live with for most buyers, thanks to a much wider service network and many more variant and powertrain choices, including good automatics across a wider price range. For daily city runs with the odd highway trip, the Seltos will feel like the more complete package and it has a more spacious and premium cabin. The Skoda Kylaq will suit you only if you really enjoy driving. It feels tighter and more confidence inspiring on the move, and the steering has more feel. If you plan long, frequent road trips and care more about how it drives than gadgets, that’s where the Kylaq shines. The flip side is fewer dealers and fewer variant choices.

I own a Hyundai Venue Turbo Petrol, which is driven around 4,000 km per year and is occasionally used by my parents. I have been considering to upgrade it, as I am tired of spending money on maintenance. The car has been problematic since its second year of ownership. I am currently considering the Kia Syros HTK (EX) manual and HTK+ (DCT). However, some automobile enthusiasts have advised me against buying a DCT if I am looking for a hassle-free ownership experience, especially since the car will mostly be driven in Delhi’s office-hour traffic and the overall running is quite low. Could you please suggest whether I should opt for the DCT, stick with a manual, or consider a diesel automatic instead? Alternatively, if there are better options within a budget of Rs. 15 lakh, I would be open to considering them. I can also wait if there are any promising new launches expected this year within my budget. I am not interested in an EV at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Given your low annual running and predominantly city use in Delhi, a diesel does not make sense. Modern diesels are happiest when regularly driven on longer runs, and with just 4,000km a year, the higher purchase cost and potential emission system issues are difficult to justify.As for DCTs, they have become far more reliable than early examples, but if the priority is a smooth, stress-free ownership experience in heavy urban traffic, a torque-converter automatic is still the safer bet. It is generally smoother at low speeds and better suited to constant stop-start driving.Rather than moving to a Syros DCT, it would be worth considering the Skoda Kylaq automatic or the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic. Both use torque-converter gearboxes and offer a more relaxed driving experience in city conditions. The Kylaq feels particularly polished to drive, while the 3XO counters with a richer feature list and a more spacious cabin.If you like the Syros, the manual remains a sensible choice given your limited annual usage, but if an automatic is preferred, a torque-converter-equipped rival would be a better fit than a DCT.
