I am looking for an EV under Rs. 14 lakh that I plan to buy in 2027 (Q1). The car should have good range, basic features, and should be more spacious than Tata Punch but cheaper than the Windsor. Basically, I want an EV that is as spacious as Baleno/i20/Altroz. Are there any upcoming EVs in 2026 or early 2027 that might fit my budget?

Yes, since you are planning to buy an EV in 2027 (Q1), we will advice you to wait for upcoming Hyundai compact EV. This new compact electric SUV is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform and is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. It will sit below the Creta Electric and directly target the Punch EV/Nexon EV space.

For your requirement, this is particularly interesting because Hyundai is expected to offer two battery options, with the larger one potentially giving a claimed range around the 400km mark. The India-spec car is also expected to be well equipped, with Hyundai confirming Level 2 ADAS and OTA capability.

The bigger question will be pricing. Hyundai has indicated that this will be its more affordable, locally produced EV, so there is a reasonable chance of it fitting around your Rs. 14 lakh ceiling, although the exact variant pricing is not yet known.

Since you are buying only in Q1 2027, waiting makes complete sense. The Hyundai compact EV should offer a better combination of cabin space, range and features than the Punch EV, while potentially undercutting the Windsor. It is easily the most relevant upcoming EV for your requirements.

There's a substantial price difference between the top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Nexon EV. But since you're comfortable with spending more for the Hyundai, we'd certainly recommend it over this Tata car. The Creta Electric is the more mature product, with a larger battery, a more spacious cabin and a more premium overall feel. Also, you're likely to get an additional 100km (or more) real-world range with the Creta Electric, and its DC fast charging capability is also better than the Tata's. Additionally, it also benefits from Hyundai's strong service network which is important for long-term ownership.We would also recommend you to consider a Kia Syros EV, that is a compact offering with a large battery, excellent cabin space, a posh interior, and is priced a bit more affordable than the Creta Electric.

Which diesel automatic car to buy under 18 lakh?

The diesel-automatic options available are the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon. Out of these, the Hyundai and Kia offerings share their 1.5-litre diesel engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth, refined and very efficient. Mahindra and Tata use a 6-speed AMT, which isn't as smooth or seamless as the torque converter which the others offer. Hence, we'd advise you to narrow down your options to the Venue, Sonet and Syros.Out of these, the Syros is a brilliantly packaged car with a sophisticated interior. If you don't mind the way it looks, it deserves serious consideration. If you prefer a vehicle that looks a bit more conventional, opt for the Venue instead, which ticks all the right boxes.Alternatively, you could consider an entry-level Kia Seltos HTE O variant. You might miss out on some features, but if you're looking for a more spacious car from a segment above, it might be worth opting for. It has the same powertrain as the Venue.

I want to buy a sub-4-metre SUV, as most of my driving will be in the city, with tight parking spaces and short trips. I will occasionally take it on hill getaways. I like the Skoda Kylaq, but it misses out on a 360-degree camera and a proper digital instrument cluster. Its older user interface also feels familiar because I already own a Volkswagen Virtus. The Hyundai Venue does not feel special enough for its price, while the Mahindra XUV 3XO has awkward proportions and an uncomfortable rear seat, despite having the best suspension, engine and transmission combination. Should I wait for the new Kia Sonet or another launch expected by early next year? I also find DCTs less suited to city driving, although I realise no car can offer everything.

Since you didn't like the current crop of compact SUVs, consider the Maruti Fronx with the 1.0 turbo-petrol engine and 6-speed torque converter. It is compact, peppy and nice to drive. Its top variant has the 360-camera you're looking for, and since the turbo-petrol isn't the popular choice from the range, you could end up getting a good deal too. Alternatively, you could pick the Taisor too, which is a rebadged Fronx sold and serviced through Toyota's network.If you didn't find the Venue exciting, you could check out the Venue N Line that gets some sportier bits to give it a more special feel. However, mechanically it remains largely similar to the standard version.The new Kia Sonet is worth waiting for if you are not in a hurry, as it is expected to bring a more modern feature set and a fresher interior. However, it will still use a DCT for the turbo petrol automatic, which you have already identified as a drawback for city driving.

I am a 6 ft driver who loves driving. I've driven the Swift 2013 petrol, Creta 1.6 Diesel Auto and the XUV500 the most on long trips. Now that I am planning to buy a car with a strict budget, do you think the 3XO AX5 TCMPFI petrol variant will be a wise decision to make, as I will be travelling once a month for short trips from Bangalore to Coorg, Pondicherry, GOA, and Mangalore? Which other car can be a perfect match for me, keeping a budget of 12 lakhs max? Also, the 3XO AX5 I'm getting from a friend who has hardly driven 6k km for 10 lakhs.

The 3XO is one of the most spacious compact SUVs in the segment, with a wide cabin and good rear seat comfort, which will make your long drives to Coorg, Pondicherry, Goa and Mangalore more comfortable. The turbo petrol engine is smooth and is well suited to both city driving and highway cruising. At Rs 10 lakh for a car with only 6,000 km on the clock, you are getting a nearly new car at a significant discount, which makes it a far better value proposition than buying new.If you are looking for alternatives under Rs 12 lakh, the Skoda Kylaq 1.0 TSI manual is the best option for an enthusiast driver. The new Brezza turbo-petrol could also be a good choice. Overall, the 3XO from your friend is the most sensible choice. It offers a good balance of comfort, reliability and value, and will serve you well on your monthly road trips.

It offers a more upmarket cabin and a comfortable ride, but it will not match the Victoris Hybrid on fuel savings.The Hyundai Creta petrol IVT is also worth considering if you want to stay within the Hyundai family. Hello, I want to upgrade from my current Dzire diesel (2009 model). My running is nearly 7 thousand which is very low. My budget is 10 lakh mostly within city driven but with few highway trips every quarter. So please suggest some reliable comfortable car. I have taken the test drive of Maruti Suzuki Fronx AGS but space in the back is also an issue. I have also taken the test drive of Brezza Turbo and I found it smooth and easy . Anything else I should go for ?

With just around 7,000km a year, mostly in the city, a simple petrol car makes much more sense than a diesel. Since you have already driven the Brezza and found it smooth and easy to drive, it would be my first choice. The new 1.0 litre Booster jet is refined, has good low speed tractability and is more than adequate for your occasional highway trips. We also found it impressively efficient, with the onboard computer showing 11 to 14kpl even during hard driving.One important point, though: the new Brezza 1.0 Turbo is manual only. If you are looking for an automatic, the 1.5 litre petrol is still the only Brezza powertrain with an automatic, and that pushes the price beyond your Rs. 10 lakh budget.
