Hello Sir, previously I was using a Mahindra Bolero Storm VLX CRDe. Due to changing government rules, I sold my vehicle and am planning to buy the new Mahindra Scorpio Classic 2026 base S variant. My monthly usage is around 700km. Should I buy this SUV? My other options are the Maruti Victoris or the Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA petrol due to my limited monthly running. I selected the Scorpio because of its drivability in the city, on highways and in hilly areas. Please give me your opinion.

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic still makes the most sense for your requirements. Coming from a Bolero Storm, the Scorpio Classic will feel familiar in terms of its rugged nature, commanding driving position and ability to tackle rough roads, highways and hilly terrain with ease. Even though your monthly running is only around 700km, the Scorpio's diesel engine should not pose any issues as long as the vehicle is driven regularly and occasionally taken on longer runs.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol are more modern and refined vehicles. They are quieter, easier to drive in traffic and better suited to urban commuting. Given your limited running, a petrol SUV is certainly the more logical choice from a purely financial perspective.

However, your reasons for preferring the Scorpio are valid. If you value durability, high ground clearance, strong low-end performance and the ability to comfortably handle city roads, highways and hilly areas, the Scorpio Classic remains difficult to beat at its price point. It also offers a very different character from the Maruti and Hyundai.

Given your height, the family of three and Pune’s congestion, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is the most sensible recommendation. Its hybrid powertrain delivers excellent fuel efficiency in stop-start city driving, while the light controls and comfortable ride make it easy to live with every day. Headroom in the front seat is adequate for someone who is 6'2'', but it will feel a bit tight in the back seat. If you are the one who is driving, then it shouldn't be an issue. The sunroof also takes away a little headroom, so it's best avoided. The other drawback is that the boot is on the smaller side for the segment, but for a family of three, it should still be manageable.If you don't mind compromising on fuel efficiency, the Kia Seltos IVT is also worth considering. It is not a hybrid, but a reliable and comfortable SUV with a spacious cabin and a strong ownership reputation. However, given your focus on fuel efficiency in heavy traffic, the Maruti Suzuki car remains the stronger recommendation.

We are a family of three looking for a budget-friendly car, preferably a hybrid, with good mileage. Our budget is between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. One main requirement is that I am 6'2" tall, so I need a car that offers enough headroom and legroom. We currently own a Kia Sonet HTX Plus Turbo, but we are not happy with its average mileage. Since we live in Pune, where traffic is a major concern, fuel efficiency is a top priority. Pune is the fifth most congested city in the world and the second most congested city in India after Bengaluru. Please suggest the best car to buy within our budget.

Given your budget, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris VXI Strong Hybrid CVT, the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid Delta+ AT, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Petrol S Hybrid AT are all excellent cars under 20 lakhs. Do note that these are the entry-level variants of their respective hybrid line-ups, so they miss out on a few premium features. That said, all three of these hybrid cars share the same powertrain, underpinnings and are essentially the same car underneath, with the only differentiation being their interior and exterior design, so it ultimately comes down to which one appeals to you the most. Their powertrain is smooth and highly fuel-efficient, making it ideal for frequent city driving.All three should offer enough space and comfort for someone who is 6'2" tall in the front seats. However, rear headroom could be a bit of an issue.

I am planning to buy a petrol manual SUV with a budget of around Rs. 15 lakh. I am unable to decide between the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta. Whichever car I choose will be a huge upgrade, as I currently drive a 2010 Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo that is 16 years old. My usage is very minimal, around 200 km per month. Which one would you recommend?

With just 200km a month and a 16-year-old Zen Estilo as your current car, the priority should be a comfortable, reliable and easy-to-live-with upgrade rather than chasing the biggest or most feature-rich SUV. The Kia Seltos petrol manual is the best fit here. It is a well-rounded SUV with a comfortable ride, good refinement and a proven ownership track record. It will feel like a huge step up from the Estilo in terms of space, safety and overall driving experience without being unnecessarily large or complex for your low running.The Tata Sierra is a more premium and spacious option, but with such minimal usage, the extra size and cost are difficult to justify. The Hyundai Creta is a solid alternative too, but it will be replaced by a new one next year. The Seltos also feels more premium and is the better value proposition in this price range. Go for the Seltos petrol manual and enjoy a simple, dependable upgrade that will serve you well for years.

At 5'1", she will benefit from its good all-round visibility, light steering and compact dimensions, which make it very easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and tight parking spaces. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive.
