Hi, I want to upgrade from my 9 year old Honda WR-V to an electric SUV. My driving is mostly in the city, with only occasional highway trips, and the total monthly running does not exceed 1,000km. I like the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq, but it seems impractical from a utility perspective once the excitement of owning a new car wears off. I am therefore looking for an EV SUV in the Rs 20-22 lakh range with good second-row space, strong design appeal and plenty of features. I would prefer something new on the block, as models like the Creta have become extremely common and feel less fresh. I also like the Harrier EV, but the features I want are available only in variants priced above Rs 25 lakh. Please suggest something new and worthwhile. I can stretch the budget to Rs 24 lakh if most of these requirements are met.

I’m planning to buy a new car in a budget of Rs. 22-24 lakh. I currently own a Ciaz petrol that I am planning to retain. My shortlisted cars include Tata Sierra (EV/petrol), Kia Seltos, and am also considering whether I should wait for the next-gen Creta. My daily running is around 18-30 km, mostly within the city, with occasional long trips. Since I’ll be keeping the Ciaz, I’m also considering an EV. What would make more sense in my situation amongst Sierra EV, Sierra petrol, Seltos, or waiting for the new Creta?

Given your usage and the fact that you are retaining the Ciaz, the Tata Sierra EV is a sensible choice. Your daily running is well within the comfort zone of an EV and the Sierra EV offers a genuinely premium cabin, excellent ride comfort and a spacious, lounge-like rear seat, making it a very different ownership proposition from the Ciaz.The Seltos is a strong all-rounder, but it does not offer a fundamentally different experience from the Ciaz, and you are essentially buying another petrol car for city use. Waiting for the next-generation Creta is a valid option, and if you can comfortably wait, go ahead and do so as the Creta is also expected to offer a hybrid, but it is still some time away. The Sierra EV, on the other hand, gives you a clear use-case advantage today. The only caveat with the Sierra EV is Tata's long-term reliability track record, which is still evolving. If that is a concern, the Seltos remains the safer ownership bet. But given your usage pattern and the fact that you are keeping the Ciaz, the Sierra EV is a logical and differentiated choice.

I’m 6’2” and my top priority is a comfortable driving posture, especially good thigh support and seating position. My current Grand i10 has become quite uncomfortable during longer drives. I absolutely loved the seating position and overall comfort of XUV 700 and I can say it is probably the best car that I have driven. However, I’m unsure about managing something that big in size in Bangalore traffic. I have taken the test drive of the new Tekton, but still found the seating position a bit awkward. Should I simply go for the XUV 7XO, or are there other petrol options that offer similar seating comfort while being easier to manage in the city? I want the car mostly for weekend city drives, with an outstation trip once every 2 months. My total running is around 3,000-4,000 km/year, so I am not considering a diesel car.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol automatic. Your priority is clear: a comfortable driving position with good thigh support and a commanding seating position. The XUV 7XO delivers exactly that, and at 6’2” you will appreciate the generous seat travel, supportive cushioning and the overall sense of space.Your concern about Bangalore traffic is understandable, but the XUV 7XO is not as intimidating as it looks. The steering is light at low speeds, the visibility is good and the automatic gearbox makes stop-go traffic far less tiring. Once you get used to the dimensions, it is perfectly manageable in the city.The Tekton is a good car, but the seating position is not as commanding and the overall comfort is not at the same level as the XUV 7XO.

I’m looking for a car in the Rs 22-24 lakh budget. My daily usage is around 30km, with about 75 percent of the driving in the city. My priorities are safety, driving comfort, mileage and an automatic gearbox. I was initially looking for a 5-seater and liked the Harrier Petrol Automatic, but I am now also considering a 7-seater. Should I choose between the Harrier, Safari and XUV 7XO, and would petrol or diesel be more suitable for my usage? I’m also open to other suggestions that fit these requirements.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic. With your 30km daily running and 75% city usage, diesel still makes sense because the 7XO’s diesel engine is efficient, refined and well suited to both city and highway driving. The XUV 7XO also offers a more modern cabin, better tech and a more premium feel than the Harrier and Safari. It is also a genuinely comfortable 7 seater with a usable third row, which gives you added flexibility. The Tata Harrier petrol automatic is a good car, but the petrol engine is not as efficient and the overall package feels a bit older compared to the 7XO. The Tata Safari is essentially a 7 seater version of the Harrier, so the same comments apply. The 7XO diesel automatic is the best fit for your priorities of safety, driving comfort, mileage and automatic transmission.

My budget is Rs. 19 lakh. Which one should I buy for driving in Bangalore and occasional trips?

Go for the Kia Seltos HTK (O) IVT at Rs 18.14 lakh on-road. Your budget of Rs 19 lakh gives you enough room to get a large, spacious and well-equipped midsize SUV, and the Seltos is the sweet spot. The IVT gearbox is smooth and well-suited to Bangalore traffic, while the 1.5 petrol is refined and reliable. The HTK (O) trim is feature-rich, so you are not compromising on equipment. The Seltos also offers better rear seat space and comfort than the others, making it a better choice for occasional family trips. The Creta SX (O) might sound like better value with a few more features, but the Seltos's larger size, better quality and new-age tech push it ahead overall.
