I’m buying my first car and trying to decide between the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. My priority is rear-seat comfort for passengers aged 60+ years, mostly for intercity driving and occasional highway trips. Kindly suggest which of the two would be more suitable. Thank you.

Both the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, being hatchbacks, aren’t ideal for rear-seat comfort, especially for elderly passengers. However, between the two, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has a wider cabin and would suit your needs better.
Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R or the Tata Punch, both of which are easier to get in and out of.

I am planning to buy a car primarily for commuting to my office, which is around 12 km from my home. I already own a Hyundai Verna. I am looking for a second car that offers good fuel efficiency along with basic features for daily use. Which car would be the most suitable for my requirements?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R VXi 1.0 AMT - for a short 12 km office run, it uses less fuel, is very easy in traffic, and gives all the basics without spending extra. Since you already have a Hyundai Verna for longer trips, the Wagon R’s small size and tall seat make daily city driving and parking simple. The AMT's shifts are relatively smooth, if a bit slow, but it will make driving in stop-and-go traffic a lot less tiresome. If you don't encounter much traffic on your route, then the manual will be fine too. The VXi has the basics: good AC, power windows, remote locking, rear parking sensors, and a simple Bluetooth music setup with a Smartplay dock available to mount your phone. Maruti’s wide service network and low-cost parts also make it a safe and easy second car to own.One thing to be aware of: the Wagon R can feel a little basic, and if you want something with a bit more style, then the Maruti Suzuki Swift is a better bet.Test drive both the manual and AMT and see which works better for your use.

I'm confused between three. Car is mostly for my dad, i use it rare. Daily commute: Let's say, at max 7 times a month, need to go 25km. Otherwise 3 km for daily work. Mostly city driving Coming from Santro Xing 2004, so any feature feels like an upgrade. going for reasonable top variants, so feature gap is minimal. Help me choose between i10 nios Asta Swift zxi + Punch Adventure. My family is inclined to punch as they find the design awesome, this car is for my dad mostly, i rarely use it, so he is not a heavy driver, but short 5'3. So, punch offers better view and safety. But i'm tilting to i10 nios as it is 4 cylinder. But my uncle who has 2018 i10 is facing suspension issues, so my parents are in the idea of i10=suspension bad, less space inside. But i like the quality of cabin interiors and the look, moreover there's some soft corner for hyundai blue lights interior. No specific reason to go for swift, except its wider, and suzuki's reliability.

Go for the Tata Punch Adventure, and consider the AMT if you want an easier automatic for your dad. For mostly city use, short trips and a shorter driver, the Punch’s high seating position, upright stance and large glass area make it much easier to drive and place on the road. Getting in and out is also more convenient, and the suspension handles speed breakers and rough patches well, which suits everyday urban use. Coming from a Santro Xing, it will feel like a big step up in space, visibility and overall road presence, and since your family already likes the design, it adds to the ownership appeal.Do note that the Punch’s 1.2-litre engine is a 3-cylinder unit, so it is not as smooth or quiet as the Hyundai at idle, and the AMT can feel slightly jerky at low speeds. However, for relaxed city driving, it remains easy to live with. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Asta is the better choice if you prioritise a smoother, quieter engine and a more premium-feeling cabin. It is easier in stop-go traffic and feels more refined overall, and the current model does not have any widespread suspension concerns. However, its lower seating position and lower ground clearance make it slightly less convenient for an older, shorter driver. The Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi+ is reliable and wider, but its low seating and driving position make it less suitable for your specific use case.

Can you suggest some good used cars under ₹1.5 lakh? This will be my first car, and I plan to use it to build driving confidence. My usage will be minimal, with occasional driving and perhaps one long trip per month.

Go for a clean Maruti Wagon R VXi manual from a trusted seller; it is the easiest first car to live with under your budget and will help you build confidence fast. The Wagon R sits a little taller, so you step in and out easily and see the road clearly, which really calms nerves when you are new. The steering is light, the clutch is easy, and the gear shifts are simple, so city drives feel stress-free. For your once-a-month highway run, it cruises calmly at normal speeds. The AC is strong, and you will find Maruti service and parts almost anywhere, which keeps running costs low even if you use the car only sometimes. One thing to be aware of is that older Wagon Rs do not have many safety features by today’s standards. So, look for a car with at least a driver's airbag and ABS if possible. Also, it can lean a bit in fast turns, so do not push it hard on the highway. If you want something newer for the same money, a Renault Kwid 1.0 manual is worth a look; it feels nice to drive and has good ground clearance, but it is narrower for four adults. When you test drive, practice a tight U-turn, reverse into a parking spot, and do a short highway stretch. Buy the car that feels easiest to handle and has clear service records, even if it is a year older or a trim lower.
