    Hi sir, I own a 2016 Hyundai Creta 1.6 diesel SX with 1.17 lakh km on the odometer. I am planning to replace it with a budget of up to ₹30 lakh. I drive 60 km on alternate days with a mix of highway and city usage. I want a vehicle with at least the same power and fuel efficiency as my current car. Also, should I consider an EV?

    Considering your usage, an electric car makes a lot of sense, and within your budget, you have quite a few current and upcoming options. If you want something that feels familiar but is a proper upgrade in terms of tech, driving, and comfort, you can go for the Hyundai Creta Electric. It is powerful enough, has a good range, is creamy smooth to drive and is a well-rounded product.
    If you want something larger with more range and performance, you can consider the Mahindra XEV 9e. It is more spacious, has a larger boot, a bigger battery pack that gives it a longer range, and it offers more tech as well.
    If you are willing to wait a bit, the Tata Sierra EV is just around the corner, and a seven-seat version of the 9e named the Mahindra XEV 9S is coming as well.

However, the XL6 is a 6-seater, thus consider between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga or the Renault Triber, both of which are 7-seaters.The Renault Triber is a sub-4m MPV, though, so while it is more affordable, it is smaller than the Ertiga, and the 1.0 litre engine is not powerful, especially so when fully loaded.As for your query about a good automatic car under Rs 9 lakh, you can consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, or if you would like an SUV body style, the Nissan Magnite would be a good choice.

They are both essentially the same car, built on the same platform or near identical in terms of drive feel.For your budget of 16-17 lakh, you will get the smaller 1.0 litre TSi engine, and you will notice turbo lag; however, past that, the performance is lively enough, and the engine is quite rev-happy.If you can stretch your budget a bit, opt for the larger 1.5-litre TSI engine. It delivers a very sprightly drive. Beyond the engine, both cars have a superb ride and handling balance.

I am open to both manual and automatic options. There are quite a few diesel-manual options available within your budget. You could go for a smaller but more feature-equipped vehicle or a larger, more powerful but less-equipped vehicle. Of the smaller vehicles within your budget, the Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO should be on your shortlist. Among the larger vehicles, the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV700 are worth a look. As for automatic gearbox options, the best pick would be the Kia Sonet diesel GTX+ AT. The refined 1.5-litre diesel engine and smooth 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission work really well together to deliver a premium driving experience. Hyundai also offers the same combo on the new Venue, though you'll need to up your budget to get a feature-equipped model.

    Asked by: Srinivas K I bought a Honda City ZX CVT (5th generation) in July 2025. At low RPMs and during stop-and-go traffic, the engine and acceleration noise are quite audible and unpleasant, and the NVH levels feel poor. What can I do to reduce this? Most CVTs suffer from what is called a ‘rubber-band’ effect, where the engine revs rise higher than the speed, which makes the engine sound like it's straining. Honda’s CVT automatic transmission in the City is a belt-driven system and is known to be a bit noisy under hard acceleration, partly because the noise insulation in the Honda City isn’t very good.To be honest, there is not much you can do except drive with a light foot and don’t floor the accelerator to keep the revs down.
