I want to buy a six-seater petrol automatic. Which should I choose between Alcazar and Carens Clavis? Please analyse and suggest.

While both the Alcazar and Carens Clavis share the same 160hp 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the Kia car is simply the better family car. Its MPV design translates into easier access to the third row, more usable space for six adults and a more comfortable third row, making it the more practical choice if you'll regularly use all six seats.

The Alcazar fights back with its SUV styling, slightly more premium ambience and higher ground clearance. If those are priorities and the third row will only be used occasionally, it's a compelling option. I had a WagonR, and then I bought the Ertiga DDiS VDI in 2017-2018. It has been around 10 years since I bought the car, and it has covered 1.8 lakh km so far, but it still drives like a new car. I enjoy the diesel power, comfort, and how easy it is to drive. I am completely happy with the car I have, but I am planning to buy a new one. Could you recommend which car I should consider?

The Ertiga diesel was a genuinely good package, and the fact that you are happy with it after 10 years is a strong endorsement of Maruti’s ownership experience.The challenge is that Maruti no longer offers a diesel MPV, so the direct replacement does not exist. The closest modern equivalent is the Toyota Innova Crysta diesel. It is the most reliable, comfortable and long-lasting diesel MPV on the market, and it will give you the same sense of durability and ease of ownership that you have enjoyed with the Ertiga. The downside is that it is significantly more expensive than the Ertiga was, and it is a much larger and heavier car.If you want something closer in size and price to the Ertiga, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga petrol with CNG is worth considering. It is one of the few cars in this price range that genuinely offers comfortable seating in all three rows, which is critical for long family journeys. The diesel engine is refined, efficient and well-suited to high-mileage highway use, and the automatic gearbox is smooth and reliable. Kia's service also has a good reputation in India.Alternatively, consider the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It has a more powerful diesel engine, is packed with features and rides superbly. However, its third row is not as accommodating as the above-mentioned Kia car.An electric car can work for your needs, but you will need to plan your stops around charging. Charging infrastructure is improving, but it is still inconsistent in places. Overall, the Kia Carens Clavis diesel automatic is the best fit for your needs.

At 5'1", she will benefit from its good all-round visibility, light steering and compact dimensions, which make it very easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and tight parking spaces. This Hyundai car also gets driver's seat height adjustment from the base trim, which will be very handy for your wife. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS. However, height adjustment for the driver's seat is only available on the ZXi trim onwards.Overall, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the better fit for your requirements. It is simple, reliable, easy to drive and well-suited to both city use and occasional highway trips.
