•1dConfused between the Safari petrol and the XUV 7XO. The reason is the future-proof claims of the Tata Hyperion engine being BS7-ready and E27 compliant. Please suggest what to do.

Autocar India
We wouldn't base our choice on the engine's compatibility with E20. It's not just Tata Motors, but most manufacturers that have upgraded their engines beyond E20 compliance to E27 to protect them against higher ethanol blends. There are other reasons to choose between the Tata Safari petrol and the XUV 7XO petrol. If you want space and comfort, especially in the third row, the Safari is the one for you. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more enjoyable of the two to drive, thanks to its strong mStallion 2.0-litre engine and improved dynamics. The 7XO has more on-board tech and features as well.

•2dI am planning to buy the new Seltos. Kindly advise whether to go for the iMT or CVT version, as I prefer an automatic.

Autocar India
Since you want a proper automatic gearbox, it's the Kia Seltos CVT that you should go for out of the two you have mentioned. The Kia Seltos iMT is a clutchless manual, meaning there's no clutch pedal for you to operate but you do have to manually row through the gears like in a conventional manual. The Seltos CVT, on the other hand, is like any other automatic wherein you just have to shift the gear selector either to 'D' (Drive) or 'R' (Reverse). It's worth noting that the Seltos is also available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox only with the 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 6-speed torque converter automatic only with the 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine.

•2dHello sir, I want to buy the Tata Punch facelift turbo 1.2-litre car for pure city driving in Pune. My monthly running is 500km. There may be occasional highway drives. Please suggest whether it is the right choice or if I should go with the NA engine or some other car in the Rs 10 lakh budget. Thank you.

Autocar India
Yes, the Tata Punch turbo is a good choice for you, given the nature of your usage. The advantage is that it can still be easy, and even quite fuel efficient if driven carefully, when driving around town, while also being strong enough for your occasional highway drives or hilly regions. This can not be said of the naturally aspirated engine.Perhaps the only downsides are that the 6-speed manual gearbox can feel notchy, clutch modulation is not easy to do smoothly, and it is not very refined. Also, you will not get the top-spec variant within your Rs 10 lakh budget.Keeping that in mind, you should also consider the Citroen C3 1.2 Turbo. It has a much smoother and punchier engine, and the gearbox is slicker too. It may miss out on some features that the Punch gets, but it is also more affordable overall. Its biggest advantage is that, if you are willing to spend a little more, you can get this engine with a smooth 6-speed automatic gearbox, which will be a huge boon around town.

•2dI am 60 years old and want to buy an automatic car ranging from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. My running will not be too much.

Autocar India
Given your need for a relaxed and comfortable automatic, we would recommend the Honda Elevate. It has a smooth-shifting CVT gearbox, a refined petrol engine and a comfartable suspension. What would be an added advantage is the seat height, which is at a comfortable position, making getting in and out quite easy. The touchscreen is also easy to use with a sorted old-school interface that does not take time to get used to. And lastly, the Honda brand is synonymous with reliability, which adds even more peace of mind.

•2dAt present, I own a Celerio AMT with CNG. My monthly running is around 2,000km. I am planning to book the Punch EV facelift. Mostly, I travel on highways, covering around 200-250km to and fro. Very occasionally, I travel 300km one way to Goa. I believe there are no charging issues on my routes. What would you suggest? Please advise. Amol.

Autocar India
With the kind of extensive driving that you do, we do not recommend choosing an electric car. As per our extensive real-world tests, the Tata Punch EV LR's highway range is about 216km. While this was a test of the pre-facelift version with the 35kWh battery, we don't anticipate this number will go up by a huge amount after the facelift.Even though you may have chargers on your routes that allow you to keep the battery topped up to complete your journey, given your usage, you will have to do this very frequently. Apart from the inconvenience, this also wears down the EV's battery much quicker, which in turn gradually lowers the range and eventually, the resale value. If you have your eyes set on only an EV, we would recommend one with a larger battery and longer range. However, we would recommend you choose a fuel-efficient petrol or diesel car that fits in your budget instead.

•5wI am Sai Sathvik. Do you suggest purchasing a used Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 motorcycle from RE’s Reown? If yes, how can I cross-check the price and actual condition of the bike? Can you also mention important factors to consider when buying a used bike?

Autocar India
Since the renowned venture deals in used Royal Enfield bikes and is managed by the company itself, it's a fairly safe bet to buy from here. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do your own independent inspection and find out the service history - and accident history, if any - of the machine you are considering.Important factors to look for when buying any used two-wheeler are to look out for a complete service history from an authorised workshop, ensure that wear and tear parts (like tyres, brake pads, chain/sprocket sets, etc.) are in good health and don't need immediate replacement and look at the edges of the two-wheeler on both sides - areas like bent/broken levers and scuffed crash guards or pillion grab rails are tell-tale signs that the machine has been dropped or worse. And of course, take a test ride of the Himalayan 450 before making a decision to check whether everything is working properly.
