I drive a Polo GT TSI. Now, I am looking to buy an EV, mostly for city use as an add-on car for my wife and me. Looking at the XUV 3XO EV, seems cheaper than its ICE option. Need your opinion. My budget is 20L.

For your usage as a second car that will spend most of its life in the city, the Tata Punch EV Long Range would actually be the first choice. It is compact, easy to manoeuvre, offers more than enough range for daily duties and is based on a dedicated EV architecture rather than an ICE conversion. It also gets a modern feature set and feels purpose-built as an electric vehicle.

If you want something larger and more spacious, the MG Windsor EV is the alternative to consider. It offers exceptional cabin space and comfort, and feels like a segment-above product for the money.

As for the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, it carries over the 39.4kWh battery pack and electric motor from the XUV400, rather than using the newer INGLO-based technology seen on the BE 6 and XEV 9e. So while it benefits from the new 3XO interior and feature set, the underlying EV hardware is not all-new.

Yes, for 20L rupees you do get the Nexon EV, but what's better is the MG Windsor EV which is bigger and has more space. You could also look at the Maruti E-Vitara.

With 20l budget if ur based in tier 1 city go for 1.windsor max 2. Vf6 vf6 has good warranty and overall package mg Windsor has been since long the leader in market for same avoid Tata due service centre and dealership avoid Mahindra as tech is not reliable

On a 400 km trip, you will need a quick charging stop, and with the growing DC fast-charging network, this is easily manageable. The key is to plan your stops around available chargers and not run the battery too low. Overall, the Punch EV Empowered 40 kWh is the right choice for your usage and budget. Plan your charging stops and you will find range anxiety is far less of an issue than it seems.

I am confused whether I should go for EV or not. I own 2 cars. One is an 8 year old i20 and other one is a 4 year old XUV 700 AX5 MT PTR. I am thinking of changing i20. Which EV will be suitable for highway and city use. I have driven Vinfast VF6 and MG Windsor. Both are good but Vinfast is new to India. Kindly suggest

Considering your intended usage, go for the Vinfast VF6. It's much better suited to both city and highway use, thanks to its strong, BMW-derived chassis, which gives a lot more confidence in a variety of conditions. It's also more powerful and has a bigger battery with longer range. Vinfast is a relatively new brand, but it has put in a lot of investment to make sure its aftersales and service is on par with the rest. The MG Windsor has the advantage on interior space, but that's about it. Another car you could consider, especially since you are coming from a Hyundai, is the Kia Syros EV. It falls in the same price range, offers similar space to the Windsor and range similar to the Vinfast. It is the safer choice of the three, but between your shortlisted EVs, the VF6 makes more sense for you.

Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross strong hybrid. With your daily running of 15-20 km and occasional 60-70 km trips, a diesel does not make financial sense, and the hybrid will give you significantly better fuel efficiency in city driving than petrol. The Hycross is also the more comfortable and spacious 7-seater, with a proven Toyota ownership experience and lower long-term maintenance costs. The XUV 7XO is the better driver's car, offers more features and has a more premium cabin, but for your usage pattern, the Hycross strong hybrid is the more sensible and hassle-free choice.

I am confused between the Elevate and the Creta. I understand that the Creta is the more established one, but with Honda, the value it brings is amazing, while the price of the Creta is a bit higher than the value it offers. I am mostly a city driver, with around 95% of my driving in the city and occasional highway trips, covering around 10,000km per year. Can you help me get some perspective?

The Hyundai Creta is the more premium product with a richer feature list. Since your usage is mainly in the city, you are likely to appreciate the Creta's smoothness and refinement, as well as the additional features it offers. Sure, this Hyundai car might cost a bit more, but it is a proven product that commands strong brand equity, which is likely to translate to higher resale value. The Honda Elevate gives you most of what you need at a significantly lower cost, and Honda’s service network is strong enough to make ownership hassle-free. Go for the Elevate if you value its stronger engine performance, else for a refined drive experience, pick the Creta.
