I currently own a Honda City CVT, which I use for long-distance travel. I am now looking for a secondary car with a budget of under Rs. 10 lakh. The new car will be used mainly for city driving in congested traffic, with a daily commute of around 10 km. I am open to both petrol and electric options. Which compact car would you recommend?

For your requirements, the Tata Tiago EV is the best fit. Your daily commute is just 10km in dense city traffic, and you already have a Honda City CVT for long-distance runs. The Tiago EV is compact, easy to manoeuvre in tight city conditions and very cost-effective to run. At this usage level, an EV makes perfect sense because you will see meaningful savings on fuel, and the car will be used exactly as intended — short, predictable city trips. The Tiago EV also fits comfortably within your budget. If you are not keen on an EV, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is the best petrol alternative. It is compact, reliable, easy to drive and has very low running costs. But given your usage pattern, the Tiago EV is the smarter choice.

@autocar.india You should buy a Maruti Spresso for your limited 10kms daily city rides.... Ev car for your use don't make any sense... Even you will not recover upfront extra payment for ev over years..... Better go with Maruti SPresso VXi variant and get it personalised as per requirement from showroom or aftermarket accessories shop

I need an SUV with minimum 470 liters of boot space and manual transmission where I need more than 12 years with minimum complexity turbo petrol engine (NA is better) and budget is on-road price 22 lacs max. Can you suggest me at least 2 cars ?

Consider the Honda Elevate. It is a naturally aspirated petrol SUV with a manual gearbox, simple mechanicals and strong long-term ownership prospects. This Honda car is a good all-rounder, with a large boot (458 litres), a spacious cabin and Honda’s reputation for reliability. If you want an even larger boot, consider getting a three-row vehicle and keeping the third row folded. If you are open to this, consider the Kia Carens Clavis turbo-petrol manual or the Maruti Suzuki XL6. Both are spacious, comfortable and have bigger boots than mid-size SUVs. Kia and Maruti Suzuki also have strong reputations for aftersales service, so they should serve you well over 12 years.

I was previously driving a Dzire and now want to switch to a new car. I can afford up to Rs. 16-20 lakh. I am looking for better interior comfort and a powerful engine, and an automatic is a must. Mileage is not a major concern. My options are the Seltos, Creta, Sierra, and Tekton. Please help me choose the better option.

The automatic gearbox is smooth and well suited to both city and highway driving, and Kia's service network is strong enough to make ownership relatively hassle-free.The Hyundai Creta is a very similar car mechanically, but the Seltos feels slightly more premium inside and offers marginally better rear seat space. The Tata Sierra is a genuinely interesting alternative with a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride, but it does not have the same long-term ownership track record as the Kia. The Nissan Tekton is a good value proposition, but Nissan's service network is not as extensive as Kia's, which can be a consideration for long-term ownership.Overall, the Seltos turbo petrol automatic strikes the best balance between comfort, performance and ownership experience in your budget.

The XUV 7XO is the better driver's car, offers more features and has a more premium cabin, but for your usage pattern, the Hycross strong hybrid is the more sensible and hassle-free choice.

The Audi New Q3 might be significantly more expensive than the other options you've listed. However, if you're referring to the outgoing model available at a discounted price, we'd recommend you to certainly consider it. The Audi Q3 has a strong 2.0 TSI engine, and its ride comfort is excellent too. Additionally, the all-wheel drive system makes it an able handler. So if you like to drive, this one is certainly worth considering. You'll also appreciate the cabin quality and seat comfort. And while it has the basics, some features like ventilated seats, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, powered tailgate, etc are missing.The BMW X1 will be a lot more spacious in comparison, however its turbo-petrol engine doesn't match the Audi's performance or responsiveness.
