Please suggest which car to buy between the Renault Kiger Automatic and the Nissan Magnite Automatic. My budget is ₹11-12 lakh. Alternatively, you can suggest other options. My preference is automatic only.

Asked by: Prabhat Singh

The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger share their turbo-petrol CVT (automatic), which is a smooth yet powerful powertrain option.

Both cars have been refreshed recently with quite a few upmarket touches. Between the two, the Magnite looks a bit more SUVish and has slightly better cabin ergonomics.

If you have a Citroen touchpoint nearby, you must check out the C3 Turbo AT. It is a much better car at a more affordable price tag.

Thank you for all your reliable and practical answers. I am 40 years old and have ridden a Thunderbird and a Unicorn for many years. I now want to buy a new bike. I don’t want a heavy bike like a Royal Enfield, and I am concerned about the thin front tyre on the Unicorn, so I am planning to go with the Honda NX200. I want an upright riding position and a bike suitable for family use as well. Kindly suggest.

The Honda NX200 is a decent option for you, considering your usage, but there are also plenty of other options worth considering before making a decision. From Honda's own fleet, you can consider the CB300F, which will offer you much better performance with similar comfort while actually costing a little less than the smaller NX200. The TVS Ronin also makes a good case for itself. It has a torquey, smooth engine with neutral ergonomics and great suspension comfort. At 160kg, it is also a fairly light machine. Take a test ride of these - and anything else you might consider - before you make up your mind.

Sir, I want to buy a new bike for my son. He is 6′1″ tall and weighs 90 kg. I want a bike with good safety features for his daily use of around 40 km. My budget is below ₹3 lakh. Please advise.

Since this will be his first bike, we recommend getting a bike with dual-channel ABS (at the very least) in terms of safety features. Keeping his physique in mind, bikes like the Hero Xpulse 200 / 210, Royal Enfield Bullet / Classic 350, TVS Ronin, Honda CB350 trio and Suzuki V-Strom SX will be good options to consider. Do take him for test rides of all of these so he can decide which one fits him best.

I am the proud owner of a Volkswagen Jetta diesel automatic 2014. I am an anesthesiologist. I have to go for surgeries at any time at night, so safety is my concern. It has been 12 years since I bought my Jetta. Also, I suffered a major accident two years ago, and despite the airbags deploying, I survived due to the strong build quality of the Jetta. I replaced the airbags and dashboard of the Jetta and continued to use it. I want to buy a new vehicle, my daily running is 50 to 80km, and 3 to 4 times a week on highways. Which SUV should I buy?

Volkswagen Taigun will be a strong fit for your requirements, and it is due for an update soon. The facelift is expected to bring a fresher look along with additional features, addressing some of the gaps in the current model. You have been served well by your Volkswagen Jetta, you are already familiar with the Volkswagen ecosystem, and the Taigun continues that core VW DNA. It offers excellent driving dynamics, a solid feel, and has secured a 5-star crash test rating, making it one of the safer options in the segment. One commonly reported concern, the air-conditioning performance, is also expected to be improved with the upcoming update. For your requirement, the 1.0-litre TSI engine should be more than adequate, offering a good balance of performance and efficiency. However, if you are looking for a more engaging and spirited driving experience, the 1.5-litre TSI is worth considering. It does come at a higher cost, but it rewards you with stronger performance and a more enthusiastic feel behind the wheel.

I am a retired 60-year-old living in Delhi. My driver will use the car for about 500 km per month and 5-6 upcountry trips. My budget is ₹10-15 lakh, and I want a safe automatic car. I have shortlisted the Brezza, Venue, Kylaq, and Nexon. Which one should I go for?

Maruti Suzuki Brezza can be a good option for you. It is a no-nonsense car, with 6 airbags, 4-star crash test ratings and the reliability of Maruti. Although the engine performance is not very exciting, the torque converter automatic is smooth. It is spacious and has decent features, and is easy to maintain.
