I’ve been driving a Datsun Redi-GO for two years and now plan to buy a compact SUV, preferably automatic. I will commute about 50 km daily. I’ve shortlisted the Tata Punch, Citroën C3X and Skoda Kylaq. My budget is around 11 lakh. Which is the best option for me?

Considering your budget, the Citroen C3X Shine 1.2 Turbo Petrol AT is a solid choice. The Tata Punch offers only an AMT, and the automatic variant of the Skoda Kushaq will take you well past ₹11 lakh.

The C3X’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is reliable, performs well, and comes paired with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic, which will give you a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

I was hoping the new Seltos would offer a hybrid, but it did not. Are there any upcoming hybrid launches I should wait for, or should I consider the Toyota Hyryder instead? I do not want another Maruti-branded model like the Grand Vitara or Victoris. My budget is 20-25 lakh. Please advise. Since a hybrid SUV is your priority, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder would be your best option. The Kia Seltos hybrid would be joining the lineup, but it is unclear as to when that would happen. The upcoming Renault Duster is also likely to feature a hybrid option, but there will be more clarity on that in the second half of 2026. If you cannot wait for another year, the Toyota car is a good option to go with.

I’ve shortlisted the Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV9S, the upcoming Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel, and the Tata Sierra petrol. Please help me decide. An EV will surely offer a smooth driving experience with the lowest running cost. However, it does have its challenges when it comes to long-distance trips. The charging infrastructure needed for a hassle-free road trip is not yet in place, and therefore, if you choose to take your SUV on a long-distance trip, it will require a lot of planning. Considering your 50km running, a petrol SUV will do the job well, and in that case, the new Tata Sierra is a good option. It has a strong road presence, a strong petrol engine and a roomy cabin with a lengthy feature list as well. Unlike the XUV 7XO, it isn't a 7-seater. So if you don't need the third row, the Sierra is a good option to consider.

The car must-have: a 5-star safety rating and excellent ride comfort; priority is the best suspension in this price bracket for a mix of highway cruising and rough roads. We suggest you wait for the updated Mahindra XUV 7XO (earlier XUV700), which is launching on 5th January, or for the German siblings, the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, as both are due for updates soon as well. Otherwise, you can go ahead with the Tata Harrier or Safari.
