I am planning to buy a TC or CVT automatic car around 15 lakhs. City driving of about 30 kms daily, and on weekends about 100 kms. Highway trips once every 6 months (mainly to a hill station). My priorities are safety, features, comfort, low running costs, and a sunroof. Please suggest the best options.

There are two good options at your budget and with your requirements, and those are the Skoda Kylaq and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Both have sunroofs, and both use smooth 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearboxes. The Kylaq has the stronger 1.0 turbo engine, tougher feel, 5-star NCAP rating and more premium feeling interiors. However, the Brezza has lower running costs, including mileage, and is a bit more spacious overall. On balance, we think the Brezza suits your needs better as it is the better all-rounder and isn't all that lacking in performance either. However, if you can wait for a bit, a facelift for the Brezza is due very soon, and it would make sense to wait and see what updates that brings.

Great suggestion by Autocar, as they're top two choices, but third could also be Mahindra 3XO, apart from low running cost it'll meet your others criteria and is more powerful than others but is also compromises on boot space although maximising interior space.

Currently I am using used Ford ecosport diesel titanium 2016 model. 2 adults and 2 children below age of 5 will travel maximum. Rarely 4 adults and 2 children will travel. My budget is around rs.13 to 14 lacs precisely. I yearly usage is 11000 kms per year. Monthly once long trip of around 500 kms travel will be there and remaining will be tier 2 city travel. I need an suv which needs to be very safe, good suspension and mileage. Kindly suggest a car which suits my need. I tried tata nexon, skoda kyla, breeza, base variant of maruti victoris, kia seltos.

The Venue’s 1.0 turbo petrol paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is a smooth and efficient combination, and the car itself is compact, easy to drive and well suited to city traffic. The Skoda Kylaq is the better driver’s car, but the Venue is the more sensible choice for your usage pattern.Both the Venue and Kylaq are E20-compliant, and modern engines are engineered to handle E20 without issue. The main impact of higher ethanol blends is a slight reduction in fuel economy and there is no official roadmap beyond E20 at this stage.The Venue also has the advantage of Hyundai’s wider service network and generally lower maintenance costs, which matters for long-term ownership. I own a 2021 Maruti Brezza (petrol), which is not E20 compatible, and I am getting low mileage. Now I'm looking for a new car and am confused between the following options: Kia Seltos HTE(O) IVT, Hyundai Creta EX CVT, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta(O), and Skoda Kushaq (TC) I have seen a few posts and videos suggesting that the new Creta and Grand Vitara will be launched in the coming months. Should I wait for the new launches to get the best car? Kindly suggest, as having multiple options is creating a lot of confusion.

While your concerns are valid, do note that all cars will see a mileage drop running on E20 petrol; it's just that E10 compliant cars like your 2021 Maruti Suzuki Brezza will see a relatively higher impact due to the engine not being calibrated for the fuel. As for which car to pick, since mileage is your maximum priority, we recommend the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta (O). It remains the mileage king in its segment, and even when you factor in the efficiency drop, it will do better than the others you have shortlisted. Bear in mind, however, that it uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as your Brezza, so in terms of powertrain, it won't feel like much of an upgrade on that front. As for the new launches, the Grand Vitara may get a minor facelift later this year, but it will not really impact the overall ownership experience (or mileage), so we recommend going ahead and buying it now. The next-gen Hyundai Creta is not due until sometime in 2027.

Go for the Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI Sport. Coming from a Polo and Vento automatic, you already appreciate Volkswagen’s driving DNA, and the Taigun 1.5 TSI is a natural progression. The engine is punchy, the DSG gearbox is quick and engaging, and the overall driving experience is far more involving than the Seltos. The Taigun also feels more compact and agile in the city, while still being comfortable on the highway. The Volkswagen Taigun mileage is 19.54 kpl for the 1.0 TSI AT, 19.98 kpl for the 1.0 TSI MT, and 18.85 kpl for the 1.5 TSI DCT.The Kia Seltos diesel X-Line is a strong all-rounder with better space, a more premium cabin and a more relaxed long-distance character, but it does not offer the same level of driver engagement. The diesel engine is efficient and torquey, but it lacks the excitement of the 1.5 TSI. Given your history with Volkswagen cars, the Taigun will simply feel more familiar and more enjoyable to drive every day. The Taigun price starts at Rs 11.00 lakh (ex-showroom).

For a car under 10 lakh budget and occasional use, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno makes sense. It is a genuinely spacious hatchback with a comfortable ride. It's easy to drive in the city and has a proven ownership record. With 5,000-7,000 km a year and mostly city driving, you are the ideal EV buyer. The Mahindra XEV 9S in its top-spec Pack Three guise will comfortably fit in your budget. With a 79kWh battery pack, you can easily expect a real-world range of around 480km in daily driving conditions. The 9S is also a full-size SUV with three rows, so practicality is excellent. There is a usable frunk as well, and the feature list is extensive with connected tech, panoramic sunroof, front and rear ventilated seats, drive modes, Level 2 ADAS and much more.
