Lewis Hamilton returned to the top step of the F1 podium after 686 days, winning the Barcelona GP in commanding fashion. This marks the 7-time world champion’s first Grand Prix win since he joined Ferrari last year. 

George Russell and Lando Norris finished second and third, respectively, making this the first all-British F1 podium since 1968.

Ferrari’s decision to put Hamilton on soft tyres for the race start didn’t quite pay off, as polesitter Russell held on to the lead initially. However, the team’s decision to opt for a three-stop strategy ended up being the race-winning one. 

As Russell and Antonelli pitted for the second time, Hamilton finally moved into the lead, but he still had one more pit-stop to go. However, Fernando Alonso’s retirement handed Hamilton the golden opportunity to pit under the Virtual Safety Car, and he re-joined the track still in the lead with 24 laps to go.

Hamilton pulled away from there on, crossing the chequered flag with a commanding 19.561 sec lead. "I started out a dream last year which seemed almost impossible during my time last year, but we never gave up hope and the team just continued to lift me up,” said Hamilton.

“We made so many changes and we made so many improvements, and on top of that I’ve got the greatest fanbase a sportsman could ever ask for. Thank you, thank you to everybody."

Russell, Norris on podium as Antonelli retires

While Hamilton had the win locked in with a rather comfortable margin, the battle for the podium was far from over. With five laps to go, championship leader Kimi Antonelli passed his Mercedes teammate Russell to snatch second place. However, Antonelli stopped on track just moments later due to a late mechanical issue, ending his five-race victory streak. Soon after, Leclerc was also forced to retire after reporting that his power steering was broken. 

Russell ended up crossing the line in second place, followed by Norris. Red Bull collected some strong points with Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar finishing P4 and P6, respectively. The Red Bull duo was separated by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in P5. Alpine and Racing Bulls rounded out the top 10 with Pierre Gasly P7, Liam Lawson P8, Arvid Lindblad P9 and Franco Colapinto P10. Colapinto finished eighth on track, but was later handed a 10-second time penalty for a yellow flag infringement.

As a result of his retirement, Antonelli’s championship lead has now been slashed to 41 points from Hamilton. Russell holds on to third place overall, but he’s now nine points behind Hamilton and 50 points behind Antonelli.

F1 will now head to the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian GP on June 26-28.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that he has signed regulations permitting the use of E100 fuel for vehicles in India. The move creates a legal framework for automakers to introduce flex-fuel vehicles designed to run on high ethanol blends.

The announcement comes weeks after E85 fuel was introduced in Delhi and signals the government's intent to expand the use of ethanol beyond the current E20 programme.

E100 fuel gets legal backing

Speaking at the Sugar, Ethanol & Bio-Energy India Conference in Nagpur, Gadkari said he had signed the file authorizing the use of E100 fuel. "Last night at 8 PM, I signed the file, finalizing the regulations to legally authorize the use of 100 percent ethanol," Gadkari said.

The approval marks a significant step beyond India's E20 programme, which focuses on blending ethanol with petrol. By creating a framework for E100, the government has opened the door for vehicles designed to run on ethanol as a primary fuel, alongside electric, CNG and hybrid alternatives.

More flex-fuel vehicles on the way

The announcement follows the unveiling of Maruti Suzuki's flex-fuel WagonR and Hero MotoCorp's ethanol-compatible motorcycles, both designed to run on higher ethanol blends. Gadkari added that Toyota, Suzuki, Hyundai and MG are expected to introduce E100-compatible vehicles within the next month and a half.

The approval is expected to encourage further investment in flex-fuel engines and ethanol-compatible fuel systems. Vehicles designed to run on high ethanol blends require specialized engine calibration and fuel-system components compared to conventional petrol-powered models.

Challenges remain

While the regulations remove a key hurdle, widespread adoption of E100 is likely to take time. Despite its name, E100 is not pure ethanol. The fuel typically contains around 93-95 percent ethanol, with the remainder comprising petrol and other additives that aid cold starts and fuel handling.

Existing E20-compatible vehicles cannot simply switch to E100. The significantly higher ethanol content requires major changes to engine calibration, fuel-system components and materials, which is why dedicated flex-fuel vehicles are required.

Fuel availability will also be a challenge. Oil marketing companies will need to develop dedicated E100 dispensing infrastructure, while storage and distribution systems may require upgrades to handle ethanol's different properties.

Higher ethanol blends also contain less energy than petrol, which means vehicles running on E100 generally consume more fuel for the same distance travelled.

The move is expected to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and increase the use of domestically produced biofuels. However, large-scale adoption will ultimately depend on vehicle availability, fuel infrastructure and consumer acceptance.

At up to Rs 2.15 lakh, the top-spec ZX trim of the Elevate features the highest benefits of any Honda car this month. Next up is the one-above-base Elevate V trim, which gets benefits of up to Rs 1.61 lakh, followed by the one-below-top VX trim at Rs 1.53 lakh, and then the mid-spec V at Rs 1.47 lakh.

Benefits on the base Elevate SV petrol-manual variant, meanwhile, extend up to just Rs 43,000. The Elevate price starts at Rs 11.60 lakh and extends to Rs 16.16 lakh, excluding premiums for cosmetic packages.

Honda Amaze discounts in June 2026

Benefits up to Rs 67,000

Honda still sells the second-gen Amaze alongside the newer third-gen model in India. For the second-gen Amaze, its sole S trim gets discounts of up to Rs 58,000. Benefits are higher for the third-gen model, totalling Rs 67,000 for the top-spec ZX petrol-manual variant, while buyers of the Amaze ZX CVT can save up to Rs 38,000.

The mid-spec Amaze VX trim is available with up to Rs 48,000 in benefits, whereas the base V trim gets up to Rs 28,000 for the same. Prices for the second-gen Amaze start at Rs 6.98 lakh and top off at Rs 7.80 lakh, while the third-gen model ranges from Rs 7.51 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Honda City discounts in June 2026

Benefits up to Rs 1.97 lakh

With the 2026 City facelift now in showrooms, Honda is offering benefits of up to Rs 1.97 lakh on the pre-facelift hybrid model to clear inventory. Benefits on petrol variants of the pre-facelift City extend up to Rs 1.56 lakh for the top-spec ZX trim, while buyers of the CVT versions of the VX and V trims can avail up to Rs 1.33 lakh and Rs 96,000 in savings, respectively. Lastly, the City SV, V, and VX petrol-manual variants get benefits of up to Rs 1.15 lakh.

Kush Maini scored a dominant win at the Formula 2 Barcelona GP Sprint Race. The Indian racer made a strong start and led every lap to secure his first win this season, and his third overall win in F2.

Starting from second on the grid, Maini got a great launch and took the lead from reverse grid pole-sitter Noel Leon. He then set about consolidating his lead. 

While plenty of drama unfolded behind, Maini kept his cool and managed his tyres well to take victory with a commanding 7.269 sec lead. Championship leader Gabriele Mini finished second after a thrilling battle with his title rival Nikola Tsolov in the closing stages. 

“ART have given me a great car, and they’ve been giving me a great car all year so they really deserve it, and I’m really glad to give them the win,” said Maini, who now moves up from P10 to P8 in the standings. He’ll start tomorrow’s (June 14) F2 Feature Race from ninth on the grid.

This year is Maini’s fourth season in F2, which sits a rung below F1 in the single-seater ladder, and he’s competing with a new team – ART Grand Prix. Alongside his F2 outings, he also continues his role as the Alpine F1 team’s reserve and test driver, as well as Mahindra Racing’s Formula E reserve driver this season.

Shortly after its official images surfaced online, the next-gen Hyundai i20 has made its debut for the Brazil market. Based on the Korean automaker’s K3 platform, which also underpins the India-spec Kia Seltos, the fourth-generation Hyundai i20 gets a comprehensive design overhaul and feature updates over the old model. Production of this next-gen hatchback will be initially limited to the Brazilian market, as per Hyundai.

The new model comes with two engine and gearbox options in Brazil

Hyundai is offering the next-gen i20 in Brazil with two 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines. Both engines are capable of running on 30 percent ethanol-blended petrol (E30), which is the standard petrol in Brazil. They can also accept much higher levels of ethanol, though Hyundai Brazil hasn’t clarified whether this will be pure ethanol or not. The entry-level naturally aspirated (NA) engine is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Hyundai claims a fuel economy of 9.6kpl in the city and 10.2kpl on the highway on ethanol, and 13.7kpl in the city and 14.8kpl on the highway on E30. Higher variants of this next-gen i20 come with a 1.0-litre turbocharged direct injection engine. This is basically the same 998cc unit that powers the N Line variants of the third-gen i20 in India. Transmission on offer with this powerplant is a 6-speed automatic. The turbo-automatic variant has a claimed mileage of 13.7kpl in the city and 14.8kpl on the highway.

The next-gen Hyundai i20 in Brazil is available in five trim levels: Comfort, Limited, X Line, Platinum and Ultimate. The former two are only offered with the manual transmission and naturally aspirated engine, while the latter three get the turbo-petrol direct injection mill with the automatic gearbox. Standard convenience features across the range include LED headlamps and daytime-running lights (DRLs), a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, connected car tech, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, driver’s seat-height adjustment, and tilt & telescopic steering adjustment.

All trims offer 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, tyre-pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Higher trims get Hyundai’s SmartSense advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite. This introduces adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The top trims of the next-gen Hyundai i20 get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control with rear vents, leatherette upholstery, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and paddle shifters (automatic variants only). Meanwhile, the range-topping Ultimate trim adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 6-speaker audio system.

Slightly larger than the third-gen i20; gets body cladding and connected light bars

At 4,130mm in length and 1,780mm in width, the fourth-gen i20 sold in Brazil is 135mm longer and 5mm wider than the outgoing model in India. However, Hyundai hasn’t changed the 2,580mm wheelbase. The next-gen model is available with 15-, 16- and 17-inch wheels, depending on the variant.

There’s also plenty of black body cladding on the bumpers, doors and wheel arches. Another design highlight are the connected LED light bars on the front and rear, along with a steeply rising shoulder line. Also, the next-gen i20 comes with conventional pull-type door handles.

Two-tone interior theme paired with a new steering wheel and dashboard design

The next-gen Hyundai i20 features a 346-litre boot – that’s 35 litres more than the third-gen model in India. Depending on the variant, the next-gen i20 gets either a black or a two-tone grey interior. The i20 now gets the brand’s latest steering wheel design, where the ‘H’ is written in morse code. Apart from the dual digital displays, the new model gets a new vertically aligned HVAC panel with touch-sensitive buttons and a single physical dial. There’s a front-centre armrest, plus front cupholders, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. No variant of the next-gen Hyundai i20 comes with a sunroof in Brazil.

The next-gen Hyundai i20 in Brazil is priced from R$99,990 to R$139,990, approximately between Rs 18.78 lakh and Rs 26.29 lakh at the time of writing. However, Hyundai hasn’t mentioned an India launch for the fourth-gen i20.

BMW has unveiled the M Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, previewing the future design and technology direction of its M division. The concept introduces a new BMW M design language and showcases the electric powertrain technology that will underpin future M models. While BMW has not officially linked the concept to a production model, it is widely understood to be a close preview of the brand's upcoming electric M3.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse: exterior design

The concept features a low, muscular stance, wide wheel arches and a pronounced shoulder line. BMW says several M-specific aerodynamic elements have been incorporated, including new aero mirrors, a front splitter, a floating rear diffuser and a ducktail rear spoiler.

At the front, the M Concept Neue Klasse gets a shark-nose design, a V-shaped bonnet air outlet for cooling the electric drivetrain, and a combined headlight and kidney grille graphic. New M Yellow Lights, inspired by BMW's GT race cars and M Hybrid V8 racer, are set to become a signature feature of future M models. Three-dimensional Track Lights integrated into the front and rear bumpers are another new design element.

Other highlights include a 'trimaran-style' bumper design, Monza Red metallic paint, red-and-blue centre-lock wheels and extensive use of natural-fibre materials in components such as the front splitter, bonnet air outlet, diffuser and roof graphic.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse: Interior

The cabin adopts a driver-focused layout with four bucket seats (the rears are likely to be swapped for a more conventional bench for showrooms) featuring integrated natural-fibre structural elements. The seats are upholstered in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red Merino leather, while red five-point harnesses reinforce the motorsport theme.

For the first time in a BMW M vehicle, black nubuck leather has been used on the steering wheel, door panels and roll bar. The dashboard features a black knit finish with M-specific hexagonal backlighting, while red accents on the steering wheel, gear selector and digital displays add contrast.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse: Powertrain

BMW says the concept uses a new M eDrive powertrain developed specifically for future electric M models. The setup combines four electric motors with BMW M Dynamic Performance Control software, managed by the company's new 'Heart of Joy' control unit.

The system enables wheel-specific control of both the drivetrain and braking systems. BMW says this improves traction, response and energy recuperation while also enhancing driving dynamics and safety.

The concept uses an 800V electrical architecture and a battery with more than 100kWh of energy capacity. BMW says the battery uses an M-specific version of its sixth-generation cylindrical cells and is structurally integrated into the vehicle.

BMW has not announced production plans or performance figures. However, the M Concept Neue Klasse provides the clearest indication yet of the design and technology direction for future electric BMW M models. 

India has removed licensing requirements for radio spectrum used by automotive radar and connected-car communication systems, a move that could accelerate the adoption of advanced safety features and future self-driving technologies.

According to a Reuters report, the government has exempted automotive radar systems operating in the 77GHz-81GHz frequency band from licensing requirements. A separate notification also removes licensing requirements for systems operating in the 5.9GHz band, which enables communication between vehicles and roadside infrastructure.

The move aligns India with regulations followed in the United States and Europe, allowing automakers and suppliers to deploy globally developed hardware without requiring market-specific versions, lowering costs and speeding adoption.

What does it mean?

Radar sensors form the basis of several advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. They are also a key building block for future self-driving technologies.

The exemption covering the 5.9GHz band will support vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems, which allow vehicles to communicate with other vehicles and roadside infrastructure. These systems can warn drivers about hazards beyond their line of sight, such as a vehicle braking around a blind corner or an approaching emergency vehicle.

Luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, which already offer radar-based driver assistance technologies overseas, could deploy the same systems more easily in India. Domestic manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Mahindra could also benefit as ADAS features become more widespread.

Suppliers such as Bosch, Continental and Qualcomm are also expected to benefit from the change.

Focus on road safety

India recorded more than 177,000 road deaths in nearly half a million accidents in 2024, according to government data cited by Reuters. The government hopes wider adoption of technologies such as ADAS and V2X can help improve road safety, particularly in situations where conventional sensors or driver visibility may be limited.

The latest notifications do not mandate the use of these technologies, but they remove a regulatory hurdle that could make them easier and more cost-effective to introduce in future vehicles.

Tata Motors has announced it will increase prices of its ICE and EV models by up to 1.5 percent from July 1, 2026. With this, the carmaker aims to “partially offset the impact of rising input costs and sustained inflationary pressures”. Tata said it continues to absorb a significant portion of these costs, and the extent of the hike will “vary across models and variants”.

Tata has not yet revealed model-specific information on revised prices, but they could increase by up to Rs 43,485, depending on the vehicle and variant. For reference, below is a price list of the 14 Tata models as of June 12.  

While Tata is increasing prices for its ICE cars for a second time this year – following a 0.5 percent hike in April – it is doing so for its EV portfolio for the first time. Other carmakers such as Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki have also raised prices citing the same reasons.

Like last month, Maruti Suzuki is offering discounts and benefits across its Nexa line-up in June 2026. These include cash discounts, exchange/scrappage bonuses and corporate offers, depending on the model and variant. Do note that exchange and scrappage benefits cannot be used together. The upgrade loyalty bonus is available only to existing Maruti Suzuki customers and can be combined only with the exchange bonus. 

Corporate benefits are available only to eligible organisations and approved finance partners. Complimentary 5-year extended warranty benefits are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Offers may also vary depending on dealership stock, registration state and the vehicle’s manufacturing month, and finance, insurance and accessory deals can differ from one dealer to another.

Each variant of the Maruti Invicto gets benefits of up to Rs 2.15 lakh this month. The offer includes a cash discount of up to Rs 50,000, exchange benefits of up to Rs 1 lakh, a Rs 50,000 loyalty bonus and a Rs 15,000 corporate benefit. The Invicto is Maruti’s badge-engineered version of the Toyota Innova Hycross and is priced between Rs 24.97 lakh and Rs 28.70 lakh.

Up to Rs 1.35 lakh

The base Sigma manual variant of the Maruti Grand Vitara is available with benefits of up to Rs 1.35 lakh. This includes a Rs 35,000 consumer offer, Rs 40,000 dealer offer, Rs 30,000 exchange bonus, Rs 20,000 loyalty benefit and Rs 10,000 corporate benefit. Delta petrol manual and automatic variants get slightly lower benefits of up to Rs 1.25 lakh.

Strong-hybrid variants get discounts of up to Rs 90,000. Zeta and Alpha manual and automatic variants, along with AWD versions, get benefits of up to Rs 85,000, plus a complimentary 5-year extended warranty. Delta and CNG variants get up to Rs 70,000 off. The Grand Vitara is priced between Rs 10.77 lakh and Rs 19.72 lakh.

Maruti Ignis discounts in June 2026

Up to Rs 35,000

The production of the Maruti Ignis has been stopped, but remaining stock is still on sale with discounts. AMT variants get benefits of up to Rs 35,000, including a Rs 5,000 consumer offer and Rs 30,000 scrappage benefit. Manual variants get a scrappage benefit of up to Rs 30,000. The Ignis is priced between Rs 5.35 lakh and Rs 7.55 lakh.

Maruti Jimny discounts in June 2026

Up to Rs 45,000

The carmaker is offering a direct cash discount of up to Rs 45,000 on all Maruti Jimny variants. The compact off-roader is priced between Rs 12.32 lakh and Rs 14.45 lakh.

Maruti XL6 discounts in June 2026

Up to Rs 45,000

Next, the Maruti XL6 gets benefits of up to Rs 45,000 on both petrol and CNG variants. This includes a cash discount of up to Rs 20,000 and a scrappage bonus of up to Rs 25,000. The XL6 is the 6-seat, more premium version of the Ertiga and is priced between Rs 11.52 lakh and Rs 14.48 lakh.

Maruti Baleno discounts in June 2026

The Maruti Baleno, the carmaker's answer to the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20, gets offers of up to Rs 40,000. The biggest benefits are on petrol variants, with a Rs 15,000 consumer offer and Rs 25,000 scrappage bonus. Baleno CNG variants get benefits of up to Rs 35,000. Prices for the Baleno range from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.10 lakh.

Maruti Fronx discounts in June 2026

Up to Rs 25,000

The Maruti Fronx turbo variants get the highest benefits, up to Rs 25,000. This includes a Rs 10,000 cash discount and a Rs 15,000 scrappage bonus. The petrol and CNG variants get benefits of up to Rs 15,000. The Fronx is priced between Rs 6.85 lakh and Rs 11.98 lakh.

We have got our hands on official pictures of the next-generation Hyundai i20 ahead of its global debut in Brazil. Hyundai has been teasing the fourth-generation i20 for the Brazilian market for some time now. These images not only give us a preview of the interior and exterior design but also uncover some key specifications.

At the front, Hyundai has equipped the new-gen i20 with dual-pod pixel-styled LED headlights, a light bar connecting the Y-shaped daytime running lamps (DRLs) and halogen turn indicators. The bonnet looks clean with creases on both sides and a brushed-aluminium Hyundai logo.

The bumper has been thoroughly redesigned, too, featuring a honeycomb pattern for the air inlets and a black finish on the lower portion. A silver strip housing a number-plate mount divides it in the centre. Also present is a radar sensor for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Rides on 17-inch alloy wheels, a size larger than the current India-spec model

In profile, the fourth-gen Hyundai i20 features 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which are a size larger than the current India-spec model. Thick black cladding on the wheel arches and lower portion of the doors lends the hatchback a rugged look. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), however, have become sleeker and continue to integrate turn indicators.

Interestingly, with fewer creases than the third-gen model, the new i20’s profile looks simpler. The window line also extends to a black kink that replaces the current car’s rear quarter glass.

Like the front DRLs, the C-shaped LED tail-lights are also connected by a slim light bar. A distinct protrusion on the tailgate gives the fourth-generation i20 a sharp look. The hatchback also gets a black shark-fin antenna, a wiper, a washer and a defogger at the rear. The black bumper has a reflector on both sides and a faux silver diffuser that adds contrast.

While the dimensions of the fourth-gen i20 are yet to be revealed, it is likely to be larger than its predecessor. The boot space has been revealed to be 346 litres, which is 35 litres more than the current India-spec model.

Gets dual integrated curved screens, a new steering wheel and a fresh AC control panel

The fourth-generation Hyundai i20 has a dual-tone cabin, with the dashboard featuring a curved panoramic panel that integrates a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a larger touchscreen infotainment system (expected to be 12.3 inches). It also gets a new 3-spoke steering wheel with Hyundai’s illuminated Morse code ‘H’ logo and paddleshifters. The centre console houses a vertically oriented AC control panel with touch-enabled buttons and a dedicated rotary knob for fan speed, and it is flanked by vertical air vents.

The seats have semi-leatherette upholstery with small ‘i20’ inscriptions on the backrest. Front passengers get a centre armrest that opens up to a small storage space. The rear bench can be split 60:40 and gets adjustable headrests and 3-point seatbelts for all three passengers, but it lacks a centre armrest. The door panels have distinct vertical lines, a silver finish on the speaker grille and retro-looking handles.

Notably, a sunroof is not visible on the Brazil-spec new-gen i20, whereas the model currently available in India gets one.

Next-gen Hyundai i20 powertrain options

Expected to continue with the same engine as the current India-spec i20

While the powertrain specifications are yet to be revealed, the i20 is expected to continue with the 84hp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 120hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options; the latter is available in a 100hp state of tune in some markets. Hyundai is also developing a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and it will be interesting to see whether the Korean carmaker offers it with the fourth-generation i20.

For the Brazilian market, Hyundai will sell the fourth-generation i20 in five trims: Comfort, Limited, X Line, Platinum and Ultimate. Its India launch is yet to be confirmed.
