A camouflaged prototype of the Suzuki Vision E-Sky was recently spied testing in Europe, giving us a hint for the first time of what the production model could look like. The Suzuki Vision E-Sky concept was previewed at the Japan Mobility Show last year as the brand’s urban-centric, entry-level born EV. It’s expected to go on sale abroad next year.

Suzuki Vision E-Sky prototype spied testing in Europe  

The heavily camouflaged vehicle seems to be an early-stage prototype, which is why it was seen wearing temporary headlamps, whereas the original concept featured LED headlamps with a connecting LED band. What stands out most are its proportions – it is tall and upright, but the narrow track width gives it a very compact footprint. For reference, the concept measured 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,625mm in height – this makes it taller than the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, but its length and width figures fall short of the latter.

Other highlights that can be spotted include traditional pull-type door handles, door-mounted wing mirrors (as opposed to pillar-mounted ones on the concept), aero-optimised alloy wheels and a large cooling inlet on the bumper. At the back, the test mule featured vertically stacked tail-lamps and reflectors on the bumper. Overall, the design seems clean and fuss-free, staying true to the original concept. 

Although these spy shots do not give us a glimpse of the interior, the Vision E-Sky concept had a floating dashboard design with large, dual digital screens and a squircle steering wheel. Given its compact dimensions, however, it is likely that this vehicle will be best suited only for four adults.

Suzuki Vision E-Sky specifications  

Suzuki didn’t disclose any specifications during the concept’s debut at the Japan Mobility Show last year but only hinted that it will offer more than 270km of range. Given its dimensions, it can be expected to be powered by a 30-35kWh battery.  

The production version of the Suzuki Vision E-Sky is expected to go on sale globally in 2027. Notably, Maruti Suzuki does have an entry-level, low-cost EV on the cards for India. Codenamed the Y2V, it is expected to arrive in the Indian market by 2028 to cater specifically to the entry-level EV segment, and the production version of the Vision E-Sky could very well fit the bill. The Y2V hatchback is part of Maruti Suzuki’s plan to launch six EVs by FY2031, covering different segments from hatchbacks to SUVs. In India, the Y2V could squarely be positioned against the MG Comet EV.

Simple has released fresh images of its first family electric scooter, the Arrive, ahead of its September 2 debut. Shot in low-light conditions with the scooter still wearing camouflage, the images reveal only a handful of design details while continuing to keep much of the bodywork hidden.

Simple family-scooter: What to expect?

The dusk-shot images don’t reveal much beyond the scooter’s front-end lighting setup. A full-width LED daytime running light spans the front, with the main headlamp units positioned lower down on the apron. The images also confirm telescopic front forks and a front disc brake, while the upright handlebar points to a relaxed riding position.

Most of the side bodywork and the rear section remain concealed beneath camouflage, suggesting Simple is reserving the full design reveal for the scooter’s official debut.

A practical addition to Simple’s line-up

Unlike the performance-oriented Simple One range, the upcoming scooter is expected to cater to buyers looking for a practical everyday commuter. Its upright proportions and conventional layout suggest a greater focus on comfort and usability than outright performance.

Likely to be called the Arrive, the scooter will rival family-oriented electric scooters such as the TVS Orbiter, Ather Rizta and Bajaj Chetak. It will also take on Ather’s upcoming EL platform-based family electric scooter, which is set to debut at the company’s Community Day on August 29, just a few days before the Arrive’s unveiling.

Debut on September 2

While Simple has confirmed that its new family electric scooter will debut on September 2, details regarding its battery, motor, claimed range, feature list and pricing remain under wraps.

All of these details are expected to be announced when the scooter is officially unveiled.

Royal Enfield has outlined an ambitious manufacturing and international expansion plan following a strong Q1 FY27 performance, with capacity targeted at 2.45 million units per year by FY30 and a CKD assembly plant in Indonesia under active consideration. The announcements were made by B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield and MD of its parent firm Eicher Motors, during the company's Q1 FY27 investor call.

Royal Enfield capacity expansion plans

Brownfield expansion at Cheyyar to take capacity to 2 million by FY28

Royal Enfield currently has an annual manufacturing capacity of around 1.5 million motorcycles across four production units in Cheyyar and Chennai in Tamil Nadu – up from 50 percent utilisation in FY20 to 90 percent in FY26. The first module of the brownfield expansion at Cheyyar is now operational, with daily production crossing 5,000 units. The remaining phases are expected to be completed by FY28, taking total capacity to 2 million units annually.

Beyond that, the board of Eicher Motors has approved an investment of Rs 1,225 crore for the first phase of a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. This addition is expected to contribute a further 4.5 lakh units of annual capacity, bringing Royal Enfield’s total manufacturing footprint to 2.45 million units by FY30. The combined brownfield and greenfield expansion represents a capacity increase of over 60 percent from current levels.

Indonesia CKD plant could be set up at faster pace due to low local content requirements

On the international front, Royal Enfield is actively evaluating a CKD assembly plant in Indonesia after finding that exports from its existing Thailand CKD plant are still subject to import quotas of around 10,000 units per year – despite the ASEAN trade framework. Govindarajan said the company had identified a local assembler in Indonesia and that a decision on setting up a CKD operation there was expected during the current quarter. He noted that Indonesia’s local content requirements are relatively low, which could allow a CKD facility to come online quickly. However, he cautioned that a luxury tax of around 140 percent would remain even with local assembly, with the key benefit being the removal of the import quota restriction.

Royal Enfield currently operates seven CKD assembly units across Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil (two units), Colombia, Nepal and Thailand, with a combined annual assembly capacity of 150,000 units. Indonesia would be the eighth. The company is also evaluating a CKD plant in Mexico following higher import tariffs there. Overseas revenue crossed Rs 1,000 crore for the first time in Q1 FY27, accounting for around 15 percent of total revenue, led by strong growth in Brazil and other Latin American markets.

Yezdi has updated its Adventure, Roadster and Scrambler motorcycles with new colour options while also introducing tubeless spoke wheels on the Adventure for the first time, for a premium of Rs 20,000 over the standard model. The new wheel setup is available on a new Yellow Falcon variant.

Yezdi Adventure now gets tubeless spoke wheels

The biggest update is reserved for the Adventure, which is now available with factory-fitted tubeless spoke wheels for the first time. Offered on a new Yellow Falcon variant, the setup retains the durability of spoke wheels while allowing punctures to be repaired without removing the tyre. The Adventure also gets the new dual-tone Yellow Falcon paint scheme, which joins the existing Nebula Blue White, Glacier White and Tornado Black colour options.

The standard Yellow Falcon variant is priced at Rs 2.13 lakh, while the tubeless spoke wheel-equipped version costs Rs 2.33 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi), commanding a Rs 20,000 premium over the standard model. The rest of the Adventure range continues unchanged.

Roadster gets Green Mamba paint option

The Roadster’s update is limited to the addition of a new metallic Green Mamba paint finish. It joins the existing Smoke Grey, Shark Skin Blue, Red Wolf and Shadow Black colours. There are no mechanical or feature changes, with the motorcycle continuing unchanged underneath the new paint option.

The Scrambler has also received a new matte Grey Panther colour scheme featuring a brown ribbed seat and matching brown accents. The new finish expands the colour palette introduced earlier this year when the motorcycle was updated with Yezdi’s Alpha2 (Katar) engine. Apart from the addition of the new paint option, the Scrambler remains mechanically unchanged.

MG is gearing up to launch its upcoming ‘new-energy vehicle’ based on the Wuling Starlight 560 in August 2026, and it has been spied testing in an EV avatar. Expected to be called the MG Hector Hawk, the SUV will be launched in both PHEV and EV versions, rivalling the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and Mahindra XEV 9S. It will be built on the new ADAPT platform, which was revealed earlier this month.

MG Hector Hawk spied: What was spotted?

A blanked-off grille suggests that the spotted test mule was the EV version

The spied MG Hector Hawk is camouflaged like the previous test mules, but a few exterior design details are still visible. These include rectangular LED headlights with LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) at the top and bottom. The grille appears to be blanked off, hinting that the spied mule was the EV version.

It appears to have a clean side profile, with images showing a charging port on the left-rear fender and a simple alloy-wheel design. At the rear, wraparound LED tail-lights, a rear windscreen wiper and a roof-mounted spoiler were spotted.

MG Hector Hawk eSUV: Other details

Expected to have a minimalist dashboard with two free-standing screens

Though the upcoming MG Hector Hawk’s interior is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be similar to that of the Wuling Starlight 560. It could therefore get a minimalist dashboard with two free-standing screens, including an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and 7 seats with leatherette upholstery.

Other features are also expected to be similar, including a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated first-row seats, a 50W wireless phone charger, a 6-speaker sound system and an automatic climate control with rear vents. The safety suite could have 6 airbags as standard, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-hold assist, an electronic parking brake, a rear parking camera with sensors and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Could offer the same powertrains as the Wuling Starlight 560

The MG Hector Hawk will be offered with PHEV and EV versions in India, both of which are expected to be the same as the internationally available Wuling Starlight 560. The Hector Hawk PHEV could therefore come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 20.5kWh battery pack, offering a total output of 195hp and 230Nm and an all-electric range of 125km.

The Hector Hawk EV version could get a 69.2kWh battery pack and a 201hp front-axle-mounted (FWD) electric motor, offering a CLTC-claimed range of 530km.

Like other MG models, the Hector Hawk is expected to be sold at a competitive price. In MG’s line-up, the PHEV version will be positioned above the Hector, while the EV will sit above the ZS EV.

At GIIAS 2026 in Indonesia, Hyundai pulled the covers off the Neira Concept, which hints at an upcoming electric MPV for the Indonesian market. Evidently, the Neira Concept is a rebadged version of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which has been on sale in India since July 2025. This isn’t surprising as Kia and Hyundai are sister brands under the Hyundai Motor Group umbrella.

Has the same design as the Carens Clavis EV but with mild changes

The Neira Concept retains most of the Carens Clavis EV’s styling cues, but with subtle tweaks. Up front, the Neira Concept sports two rows of horizontal slats between the connected LED strip up top and the silver cladding below, and the charging port flap is more rectangular. Expectedly, the Neira Concept bears a Hyundai emblem on the leading edge of its bonnet, and its bumper is also much chunkier than that of the Carens Clavis EV.

Over to the side, the only differences on the Neira Concept are its alloy wheels, a triple-ridge design for the skirt cladding and chrome door handles as opposed to body-coloured ones on the Carens Clavis EV. The rear end of the Neira Concept sets itself apart from the Kia EV with a different bumper design, more silver cladding and a Hyundai badge on the boot lid.

Dashboard layout identical to the Carens Clavis EV

The similarities to the Carens Clavis EV carry over inside the Neira Concept as well. In fact, were it not for the Neira’s black seat upholstery and four-dot Hyundai motif on the two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, you’d be hard-pressed to find any differences between these two electric MPVs.

They have the exact same dashboard layout, dual 12.3-inch screens, an AC control panel and a floating centre console. As for seating layout, the Neira Concept displayed at the pavilion was a 7-seater, a configuration offered for the Carens Clavis EV too. The Kia MPV can also be had as a 6-seater with second-row captain’s chairs.

Could retain the Carens Clavis EV's 42kWh and 51.4kWh batteries

Hyundai did not disclose what’s under the skin of the Neira Concept, but if the exterior and interior are anything to go by, it could share the Carens Clavis EV’s 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery options wired up to a 255Nm front-mounted motor. The Carens Clavis EV develops 135hp in the 42kWh version and 171hp in the 51.4kWh guise.

The MIDC range is 404km for the smaller battery and 490km for the bigger unit. A 10-100 percent charge using an 11kW AC wallbox requires 4 hours for the 42kWh battery and 4.45 hours for the 51.4kWh pack. Both batteries take 39 minutes to charge from 0 to 80 percent using a 100kW DC charger.

Could the Hyundai Neira come to India?

Hyundai plans to launch an MPV in India by the end of the decade

During its 2025 Investor Day, Hyundai confirmed that a new MPV will join its India line-up by 2030. At the time, Hyundai had only two MPVs in its global portfolio: the mainstream Stargazer and premium Staria. Given Hyundai’s usage of phrases like ‘family mover’ and ‘mobility for all’ to describe its India-bound MPV, the Stargazer was speculated to be the front-runner for the role, but now, the production-spec Neira seems a likely candidate too.

The Carens Clavis EV is an established model, so launching a mildly differentiated Hyundai-badged version of it in India would take much less time than an entirely new MPV would. It’s also one of the most affordable yet feature-packed three-row EVs in the Indian market, so it’s quite a solid base for Hyundai’s own MPV offering. That said, this is speculation, so only time will tell if Hyundai will bring the Neira to India.

Ather Energy has begun rolling out its new Pothole+ Alerts feature for Gen 2 and newer electric scooters. Available on the 450 Apex, 450X and Rizta Z, the software-based feature uses connected-vehicle data to alert riders about upcoming road hazards.

The feature displays visual warnings on the scooter’s dashboard when it detects potholes, broken road patches, uneven surfaces and speed breakers ahead. Riders can also receive audio alerts through the scooter’s speakers, the Ather Halo smart helmet or a connected Bluetooth headset, allowing them to keep their attention on the road.

According to Ather, the system is powered by road intelligence built using anonymised data collected from its connected scooter fleet. The company says this enables the software to identify frequently encountered road hazards and notify riders before they reach them.

Ather first showcased the Pothole+ Alerts feature at its Community Day 2025 event. In a post on X, Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta said the company has now started rolling out the feature, adding that it took time to develop because it required building a sufficiently large dataset from the brand’s connected vehicles before the alerts could be made reliable.

The rollout, being done through a software update, is currently limited to Gen 2 and newer Ather scooters, including the 450 Apex, 450X and Rizta Z.

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the 2026 Brezza with prices ranging from Rs 7.40 lakh to Rs 13.55 lakh (ex-showroom). With the midlife update, Maruti has introduced a 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine to the Brezza while also offering a couple of new features and a few new design elements. The 2026 Brezza is available in four trims: LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill continues to be available with a CNG option.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the third-generation GLA with ICE and EV powertrains, merging both versions in a single nameplate, unlike before when the EQA EV was sold as a separate model. It is built on the MMA architecture. The EV is offered in three trims: 250, 250+ and 350, which offer the option of a 58kWh or an 85kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of up to 657km. The GLA ICE uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, and an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The new GLA also gets a fresh design inspired by Mercedes-Benz’s latest SUVs and a tech-focused cabin featuring a triple-screen setup.

In the international markets, the GLA is currently offered only as an EV, with the ICE version slated to go on sale in 2027.

Third-gen Mercedes-Benz GLA: Powertrain options

GLA EV gets two battery options currently; 71kWh version set to arrive in 2027

The Mercedes-Benz GLA EV is available in three trims internationally: 250, 250+ and 350. The base GLA 250 gets a 58kWh LFP battery pack with a WLTP-claimed range of up to 447km. The higher-spec 250+ and 350 variants use a larger 85kWh NMC battery pack, offering a claimed range of up to 657km. Mercedes-Benz will also introduce a 71kWh NMC battery option in early 2027.

The GLA 250 and 250+ come with a single rear-axle-mounted electric motor. The former produces 224hp and 335Nm, and the latter 272hp and 335Nm. The top-spec GLA 350 gets a dual-motor setup with one motor powering each axle, delivering 354hp and 515Nm. This AWD version is the quickest; it reaches 0-100kph in a claimed 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 210kph.

Mercedes-Benz says a 320kW DC fast charger can add up to 270km of range to the GLA EV in ten minutes, thanks to its 800-volt technology. The AC charging power is up to 22kW.

GLA ICE to be offered with a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with FWD or AWD

The ICE version of the third-gen GLA will arrive internationally in 2027. It will be powered by Mercedes-Benz’s new ‘M 252’ 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The engine will come with an electrified 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (8F-eDCT), with power sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels. Mercedes-Benz has yet to reveal the engine’s power and torque figures.

Looks bolder than before and aligns with the design of larger Mercedes SUVs

The third-generation GLA features a bolder design that closely follows Mercedes-Benz’s latest SUV styling. At the front, it gets a large grille with different treatments for the EV and ICE versions. The electric model features multiple LED elements arranged in horizontal strips, while the ICE version gets chrome tristar detailing. Both come with an illuminated grille surround. The new headlights feature tristar-shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), while the front bumper gets two black inserts that add to its sporty appearance.

In profile, the GLA gets dual-tone alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches in size and has gloss-black wheel arch cladding along with a black lower-body finish. These elements create a strong contrast that enhances the SUV’s rugged stance.

Offered with an all-black cabin and an optional three-screen dashboard

The third-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA gets a tech-focused cabin with an optional MBUX Superscreen triple-display setup that includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment screen and a 14-inch passenger display. The standard version features a glass panel with illuminated star patterns in front of the co-driver. 

The three-spoke steering wheel has physical buttons for various functions. Apart from these, the only other physical controls are on the centre console, while the air conditioning functions are controlled through the touchscreen. The cabin features an all-black theme with silver accents on the centre console and doors for contrast. Depending on the variant, the GLA EV is offered with either fabric or leatherette seats.

In terms of features, the third-generation GLA EV comes equipped with a 16-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera with an optional ‘transparent bonnet’ function, and automatic parking assistance.

In India, Mercedes-Benz currently offers the second-generation facelifted GLA only with an ICE powertrain, priced from Rs 51.80 lakh (ex-showroom). The third-generation model, especially the EV version, is expected to command a significantly higher price. 

JSW Motors’s third model, an electric SUV based on the Chery iCar V23, is expected to be sold with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain in India, per our sources. This EV will be the first mass-market electric off-roader in India, and its closest rival will be the Mahindra Thar Roxx, which is ICE-powered but also a 5-door off-road-focused SUV. We had also reported that JSW’s iCar V23-based EV may be priced under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

In global markets, the dual-motor AWD version of the iCar V23 packs an 81.76kWh NMC battery pack with an NEDC-certified range of 430km. Combined output is pegged at 211hp and 292Nm, which makes for a rather brisk 0-100kph time of 7.5 seconds (claimed). Top speed is rated at 140kph. The global-spec iCar V23 also supports up to 6.6kW AC and 104kW DC charging speeds.

Test mules of JSW’s iCar V23-based EV have been spotted on Indian roads on several occasions, hinting at a very similar design to that of the global model. For reference, the global-spec iCar V23 measures 4,220mm in length, 1,915mm in width and 1,845mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,735mm. Its unladen ground clearance is 210mm.

Size-wise, then, the iCar V23 slots between the Maruti Jimny and Thar Roxx. Styling highlights for the iCar V23 include butch and boxy proportions, muscular bumpers, flared and squared-off fenders, 21-inch alloy wheels, circular LED headlamps, low-set rectangular tail-lamps and a boot lid-mounted spare wheel.

Inside, the iCar V23 sports a minimalist dashboard layout, comprising a massive 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, a three-spoke steering wheel and two rows of physical controls on the centre console. As for features, the global-spec iCar V23 packs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 540-degree camera, six drive modes, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), powered and ventilated front seats, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, a digital key, a 7-speaker sound system and more.
