Hyundai Motor Company’s upcoming made-for-India compact electric SUV, codenamed HE1i, is expected to carry the Ioniq P name, extending its globally recognised Ioniq nameplate into a more accessible segment of the Indian market.

Outlining its regional product plans during the third-quarter 2026 earnings conference call with analysts on October 29, Hyundai management said the company would introduce the Ioniq P in India following the Bayon. Hyundai Motor India has yet to officially announce the nomenclature, while the management commentary did not explicitly connect the Ioniq P name to the HE1i project.

Hyundai Ioniq P: What to expect?

The upcoming model will lead Hyundai’s effort to lift its EV sales share closer to the industry average in FY28. Tarun Garg, managing director of Hyundai Motor India, said the company aims to achieve this with a made-for-India mass-market electric vehicle. Hyundai has not disclosed a sales target for the new model.

India’s electric passenger vehicle sales have risen almost 90 percent so far in FY27, increasing the importance of a more affordable EV in Hyundai’s portfolio.

The Ioniq P is expected to be underpinned by the E-GMP (K) platform, also used by the internationally available Inster EV. It will likely be offered in two versions – standard range and long range – but the exact specifications are under wraps. For context, the Inster EV is also available in standard-range and long-range versions, with 42kWh and 49kWh batteries, respectively, offering a claimed range of up to 355km (WLTP).

The upcoming compact EV will initially use imported battery cells. Hyundai had planned to source locally manufactured cells through its partnership with Exide Industries, but Exide has indicated that supplies under the Hyundai-Kia programme will not begin this year. Local cell sourcing will follow at a later stage. For its more accessible EV offering, local cell supply will be an important part of controlling costs and reducing dependence on imports as volumes grow.

Hyundai has also previously confirmed that the new compact EV will get a ‘next-generation infotainment system’, which could be the Pleos Connect infotainment system seen on several of the brand’s new-age models, and ‘Level 2 assisted driving technology’. 

The EV will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu and lock horns with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and Kia Syros EV. The official debut is expected in January 2027, later than the end-of-2026 timeline indicated earlier.

Bajaj Auto plans to launch two new motorcycle product lines covering the 125cc to 250cc segment in FY2027, according to its joint managing director Rakesh Sharma. Speaking after the company’s Q2 FY2027 results, he said the brands will cater to customers in India and international markets and complement the Pulsar range.

Bajaj Auto plans product expansion in the 125-250cc segment

Bajaj, which lost market share in the 125cc and 150cc-plus segments last year, says recent Pulsar refreshes are helping

Sharma said, “Through two new brands, we will address the 125 to 250 segment and some subsegments within that.” The brands won’t each cover the entire range but are intended to complement each other. On the Q1 FY2027 call in July, Bajaj had outlined plans for two brands focused on the 125cc segment, aimed at customers with different needs and at encouraging 100cc owners to upgrade. At the time, Sharma said they would offer propositions distinct from the Pulsar range.

He acknowledged that Bajaj lost market share in the 125cc and 150cc-plus segments last year, partly because several of its products were nearing the end of their life cycles. Sharma added that Bajaj began with the 150cc-plus segment because “the 150 segment set the tone for the 125”. A premium model helps establish the brand and influences demand for lower-capacity variants.

The Pulsar NS and N series have been growing faster than the market in the 150cc-plus category, while the older Classic Pulsars and the 100cc segment have weighed on overall market share. “The whole reason for refreshing the old Pulsars was because the market share was stagnating, if not eroding slowly,” he said.

In the 100cc segment, Bajaj raised prices to protect profitability and accepted lower volumes. Sharma said the company would accept losing market share in entry-level models rather than cut prices aggressively and would focus its investment on the 125cc-plus segment.

Bajaj has launched multiple new models and updates over the past few weeks, including the new Pulsar 125 and Pulsar 150, as well as the updated Pulsar N160 S, N160 SS, NS400Z, N250SS and NS200.

Sharma said the recently introduced models accounted for 7 percent of Bajaj’s 125cc-plus portfolio in August, 26 percent in September and 33 percent in the first 16 days of the festive period.

Meanwhile, Bajaj’s overseas shipments rose 41 percent year on year to about 7.8 lakh vehicles in Q2 FY2027. Motorcycle demand was particularly strong in Africa and Latin America, with exports to Africa up 83 percent and those to Latin America, including Brazil, up 44 percent. Sharma said future export growth would come from gaining market share, entering new product segments in existing markets, expanding into more countries and strengthening the KTM collaboration.

Bajaj Auto plans to increase monthly production of the Chetak electric scooter to around 80,000 units by the fourth quarter of FY2027 (January-March 2027), from just over 62,000 units currently. Joint Managing Director Rakesh Sharma said this following the company’s Q2 FY2027 results, adding that demand continues to exceed production and that Bajaj is also evaluating locations for a sixth manufacturing plant.

Bajaj had previously been able to build only around 40,000 Chetaks a month against an available capacity of 60,000 units because of supply disruptions. Sharma said that while production is now back at full capacity, demand remains higher than output. Bajaj expects to complete further debottlenecking in the January-March 2027 quarter, taking Chetak production to close to 80,000 units a month.

The capacity constraints aren't limited to the Chetak. Sharma said Bajaj is also facing constraints in its premium motorcycle and internal combustion engine businesses, which is why it is considering a new plant. “We are in serious discussion with a few states and assessing where we should base our new sixth plant,” he said, adding that a cross-functional team is evaluating locations and proposals across India. Bajaj hasn't disclosed the proposed investment, production capacity, location or timeline.

According to Sharma, electric vehicles account for around 25 percent of scooter sales in India, and this could reach 50 percent over the next three to five years. He said penetration varies widely by state, at around 40 percent in Odisha and 30-35 percent in Maharashtra, compared with 10-12 percent in Gujarat.

The company plans to expand the Chetak range over the next six months to cater to more customer requirements, but Sharma didn't comment on what types of models or variants are planned.

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari has asked officials to allow a 20 percent margin above the applicable speed limit before issuing speeding challans on expressways. “Some people are receiving notices on the road due to speed. I have instructed that no notices should be sent for speeds up to 120 kmph,” Gadkari was quoted as saying by PTI. “And even above 120, if someone exceeds it by 20 percent, let them go. If someone goes beyond this, issue a challan.”

The remarks were made at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) National Conference on Highways of India’s Future. If applied to a 120kph limit, the proposed margin would put the challan threshold at 144kph. The minister’s remarks should not be interpreted as a change to prescribed speed limits; motorists should continue to follow posted limits unless formal rules or notifications state otherwise.

Gadkari warns contractors over poor highway quality

Gadkari warned contractors and consultants responsible for poor-quality highway construction and maintenance that they could face blacklisting, bans and financial penalties. “Every pothole will be accounted for,” he said.

He also urged the public to report highway defects on social media, saying the posts had helped officials identify problems. “Social media posts have been helpful in flagging quality issues on highway stretches, and I urge the public to post these problems on social media so that officials cannot hide them,” Gadkari said.

The minister claimed that his monitoring had led to a 30 percent reduction in highway quality issues. He added that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the road transport ministry use Network Survey Vehicles to record road defects, including potholes.

AI-based traffic monitoring to be implemented

Gadkari called on the industry to support artificial intelligence-based Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) to improve highway monitoring and enforcement. The systems are expected to help detect traffic violations, including lane indiscipline and non-compliance with helmet and seatbelt rules.

Maruti Suzuki India has exported more than 50,000 electric vehicles since beginning international shipments in August 2025. The company exports its Made-in-India electric vehicles to about 50 countries, with Europe being its largest export market.

The company said it accounted for nearly 93 percent of India’s EV exports in April–September 2026, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Maruti Suzuki also ranked as India’s largest electric vehicle exporter in FY2025-26 and retained that position during the first half of FY2026-27.

Hansalpur facility supports EV exports

Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant is the exclusive manufacturing base for its EVs. The facility recently expanded its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles, making it the first Suzuki manufacturing facility to reach that capacity at a single location.

Which EVs does Maruti export?

Maruti Suzuki exports its all-electric e Vitara mid-size SUV from its Hansalpur plant. Additionally, the plant also manufactures and exports its badge-engineered sibling, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. The former is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh, while the latter is priced at Rs 23.6 lakh. A 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack is utilised by the e Vitara, whereas the Ebella is sold only with the latter. The e Vitara is shipped to international markets, including the UK, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

The recently launched Bonneville T40 was the first of the Bajaj-built Triumph models to feature a circular colour TFT display with riding modes and cruise control. It now looks like these features might trickle down to the other models, as a Thruxton 400 has been spotted testing with the TFT dash.

The bike appears to be mechanically identical but receives more features

The suite of rider aids on the current Thruxton 400 is limited to a simple traction control system, which can be switched off, as well as non-switchable dual-channel ABS. This particular test mule with the TFT dash could augment that with additions like riding modes and cruise control (seen via the switchgear on the LH switch cube).

It’s worth noting that this seems like a test mule of the export-spec Thruxton 400 because it is wearing Pirelli Rosso 4 rubber (the tyres supplied on the bike in international markets). As such, it remains to be seen if the India-spec Thruxton 400 will also be updated with these features. So far, aside from the different engines owing to GST, the export-spec and India-spec Triumph 400s have been in sync when it comes to features, and only time will tell if that continues to be the case going forward.

Other than the new TFT dash and additional electronics, the Thruxton 400 appears unchanged. If the bike does indeed receive these additional features, expect an increase in its Rs 2.77 lakh price tag. This sighting now also opens the door for other models like the Tracker, Scrambler and Speed to receive the more sophisticated display, although neither Triumph nor Bajaj have officially confirmed the same.

Denza has officially teased the Z9 GT ahead of the brand’s India debut on November 13, 2026. The short video gives a look at some of the design details of this upcoming shooting brake, including its exterior and interior. The Z9 GT will be one of Denza’s first two models for India. As we revealed in our exclusive scoop, the luxury arm of BYD will offer models priced from around Rs 80 lakh.

The Denza Z9 GT, along with the D9 MPV, will come to India as completely built units (CBUs). Both are likely to launch by the end of 2026, with the Z9 GT’s ex-showroom price expected to be in the Rs 1.2 crore-Rs 1.5 crore range. Denza will sell all of its models through its own showrooms, separate from BYD.

The teaser aside, Rajeev Chauhan, head of EV business at BYD India, told us that India-spec Denza models will get the same features as the China-spec ones. For reference, the latter gets five digital displays, with the two units on the doors relaying the feed from the camera-based ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors), along with electrically operable doors, heated, cooled and massaging seats, Level 2+ ADAS and rear-wheel steering.

This is the Chinese luxury automaker’s first model to sport the Shooting Brake design. It’s a form factor that has been a rare sight in our market. However, select markets abroad have had their fair share of such cars. There’s the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake, Genesis G70 Shooting Brake and even the limited-run Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake. While these weren't offered in our market by their respective brands, Porsche used to sell the Panamera Sport Turismo in India.

The Denza Z9 GT coming to India will be powered by three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear. Their combined output is rated at 1,156hp, while the 122.5kWh battery pack energising those motors has a claimed WLTP range of 600km. The Chinese luxury automaker says its 1,500kW Flash charger can take the Z9 GT’s battery from 10 to 97 percent in 9 minutes, while 100kph from a standstill comes up in 2.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the Denza Z9 GT has a top speed of 270kph.

Royal Enfield launched the Flying Flea C6 early this year as its first electric motorcycle at Rs 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). While it was confined to Bengaluru for most of the year, the brand recently extended availability to Hyderabad and now to Pune. The Chennai-based manufacturer has announced that 10 dealers are equipped to offer sales and service for the C6 across the city. This adds to the existing 12 in Bengaluru and four in Hyderabad.

Flying Flea C6: How far has Royal Enfield’s first EV evolved so far?

The brand’s most modern motorcycle yet

To recap, the Flying Flea C6 is a retro-styled electric motorcycle powered by a 3.91kWh battery pack with a claimed IDC range of 154km. It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) capable of producing 15.4kW and 60Nm at its peak. Besides India, Royal Enfield has also launched the Flying Flea C6 in the UK and five other European countries. There are three colours on offer – Flea Green, Storm Black and Parachute White – all costing the same. Opting for the Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan can lower the upfront price to Rs 1.99 lakh.

At launch, the C6 raised eyebrows with many modern features, including cornering-sensitive ABS and traction control, and five different ride modes, one of which is user-configurable. All of these details and the bike’s retro design with a girder fork can now be checked out by interested customers living in Pune. It’s worth mentioning that there’s also an upcoming S6, which shares its underpinnings with the C6 but adopts a more scrambler-like approach to the design.

Moto Guzzi, another Italian manufacturer known for its retro-styled motorcycles, has just revealed ‘The Trip’, powered by a 500cc twin. It’s currently the brand’s smallest displacement motorcycle, and we believe the engine is actually shared with the Aprilia Tuono 457.

Moto Guzzi 500cc Roadster: What do we know so far?

The brand has the same parent company as Aprilia

For the uninitiated, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi are owned by the same parent company, Piaggio, and that’s how this unexpected crossover materialised. We say unexpected because Guzzis are known for their V-twin engines with longitudinal cylinder heads poking out both sides. So, for enthusiasts, this is akin to sacrilege. That said, the Trip might just take Moto Guzzi to a whole new demographic, so we aren’t complaining yet.

As we said, the Trip is expected to be powered by an Aprilia 457cc-based parallel-twin engine, making close to 48hp here. Torque figures are unknown at the moment, but for context, the Tuono 457 makes 43.5Nm. Speaking of specifications that are unknown, here’s all we know at the moment. The Trip has a 790mm seat height, a 15-litre metal fuel tank, a gold USD fork and a monoshock unit that connects the subframe directly to the swingarm. It weighs 180kg. The rest of the details, such as the sizes of the dual-disc brakes and additional rider aids, are expected to be clarified by the brand at EICMA 2026, being held from November 3, 2026, in Milan, Italy.

The design takes a lot of cues from bigger Guzzis and, of course, the Italian brand’s heritage. Like all other motorcycles from the brand, there’s a metal flying eagle logo in the tank and a flying eagle silhouette across the width of the rounded headlight. There are additional embellishments, such as an embroidered ‘The Trip’ logo on the seat. However, the Trip is more modern than its appearance suggests. For example, it has a 3.6-inch circular TFT display and ride-by-wire, which enables three ride modes (Road, Rain and Sport). The switch cubes are backlit, and Moto Guzzi offers a quickshifter (likely a bi-directional one) and turn-by-turn navigation as accessories.

While price remains one of the unknown factors, we do know the Trip will reach Moto Guzzi dealerships in 2027. Prospective customers will have three colours to choose from: Black Metropolis, Green Grove and Red Beat. There’s also a special edition called The Opening, but we await the brand to clarify what makes it special. Moto Guzzi famously manufactures its current portfolio at Mandello del Lario in Italy, but we could see the Trip be built at Piaggio’s Baramati plant in India instead. It’s where Aprilia’s 457 duo and its scooters are being manufactured and exported.

Moto Guzzi has an extremely limited presence in India, and there are currently no indications that the brand plans to sell the Trip here. That said, it would be an accessible way to get a glimpse of the brand and increase its presence here. We should see this and other mysteries about the Trip get clarified at EICMA 2026, which is less than a week away.

Just a couple of days after the global unveiling of the updated Tiger 1200 range, Triumph has revealed pricing for the two variants – the GT Pro and Rally Explorer – that will be available in India from March 2027. The updated flagship adventure models receive substantial updates, including a more powerful engine, a revised chassis setup and radar-based rider aids.

2027 Triumph Tiger 1200 price and details

All variants of the new Tiger 1200 ride on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels

The updated 1,160cc liquid-cooled triple now makes 158hp at 9,250rpm (8hp more than before) and 130Nm at 6,750rpm, with peak torque arriving lower in the rev range. Triumph has redesigned the cylinder head, pistons and exhaust, and fitted lighter intake and exhaust valves and more precise fuel injection. Along with the increased low-speed torque and revised primary and final-drive ratios, the crawl speed is lower by 6kph.

Both variants now use a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination, meaning the Tiger 1200 will no longer be available with a 21-inch front wheel, as in previous generations. The GT Pro has cast aluminium wheels, while the Rally Explorer has spoked wheels.

The suspension setup comprises semi-active Showa units, with a 49mm USD fork and a monoshock, both offering 200mm of travel. The system features automatic self-levelling preload and uses inputs from multiple sensors, including a six-axis IMU, to continuously adjust compression and rebound damping. Braking hardware includes twin 320mm front discs with Brembo Stylema calipers and a 282mm rear disc. Kerb weights are listed at 250kg for the GT Pro and 268kg for the Rally Explorer.

Another notable update is the addition of a front and rear Bosch radar system, which enables adaptive cruise control, group ride assist, emergency brake assist, forward collision warning, blind spot assist and rear distance warning. The new 7-inch TFT touchscreen offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the tank-top phone compartment has a USB-C charging port. The GT Pro has seven riding modes, while the Rally Explorer adds an Off-road Pro mode, bringing the total to eight. 

Other differences between the two include a 20-litre fuel tank on the GT Pro and a larger 30-litre tank on the Rally Explorer. The latter also gets a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), an engine guard, lower and upper engine bars, an adjustable folding brake pedal, and handlebars positioned 10mm higher and 10mm wider.

The GT Pro is priced at Rs 20.99 lakh, while the Rally Explorer costs Rs 23.49 lakh. For reference, the outgoing MY24 Tiger 1200 Rally Pro and GT Explorer listed on the Triumph India website are priced at Rs 20.79 lakh and Rs 20.89 lakh, respectively.

Even at their higher price points, the new Tiger 1200 variants undercut rivals such as the BMW R 1300 GS, which costs Rs 24 lakh (Rs 26.5 lakh for the GSA), and the Ducati Multistrada V4, which starts at Rs 25.06 lakh.
