Rangasamy wins FMSCI Upcoming Motorsports Person of the Year award

    Former FMSCI president GR Karthikeyan was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian motorsport.

    A total of 61 Indian motorsport personalities were felicitated at the 2018 FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) Annual Awards, with Chennai’s Raghul Rangasamy taking home the coveted ‘Upcoming Motorsports Person of the Year’ award. Rangasamy enjoyed a strong year in motorsport, clinching two championship victories in 2018 – the LGB Formula 4 title in the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship and the FF 1600 category in the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.

    In addition to the 2018 champions of Indian motorsport across 10 categories being awarded for their performance, a few special awards were also given away. GR Karthikeyan, former president of the FMSCI and father of Narain Karthikeyan, was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian motorsport. The FMSCI also handed out awards for ‘Outstanding Achievement in World Motorsport’ to Abhilash PG, Jehan Daruvala, Anindith Reddy K, Amittrajit Ghosh and a number of other racers for representing India in international motorsport.

    Leading female drivers of the country were also presented trophies including Mira Erda, Sneha Sharma and Shriya Lohia.

    Speaking at the event, current FMSCI President J Prithiviraj shone some light on what can be expected from Indian motorsport going forward. “We are entering the golden period of Indian motorsports. We have events in virtually all the disciplines possible and our boys and girls are competing and winning at the world level, like never before. We are going to introduce many other exciting verticals very soon.” he said.

    Also present at the 2018 FMSCI Annual Awards was Jean Todt, President of the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile), who was in attendance as the chief guest.
