Motorsport and ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup (now the Sirocco R-Cup) fans will be exited to know that we’ve just inched closer to witnessing the first ever Indian VW Polo cup.

Post receiving over 100 entries, last weekend, April 23, 2010, saw Kolhapur play host to the first round of the short-listing of candidates for the VW Polo Cup. The single-day event saw both experienced and rookie entrants battle it out, in their 4 and 2 stroke karts, for the top 45 spots that would send them through to the second round in Coimbatore. The 45 drivers will then get the opportunity to actually get behind the wheel of the race fitted 1.6litre diesel Polo cars.

As the sun set on the scorching hot Mohites race track, it was Parth Ghorpade who took top honours after setting the quickest time of the day with 59.46sec. It was only  Parth and second placed Chittesh Mandhody who lapped under a minute, with only 0.518 of a second separating the two lads from Kolhapur.

Final results of the first shortlist will shortly be posted on the VW Polo Cup website www.polocup.in. The second round of tests will take place in May 2010. Check this space for more updates.
