In what ultimately proved to be a race of survival for most of the MotoGP grid, Marc Marquez established his dominance by taking victories in both the Sprint and main races at one of his strongest tracks - the Sachsenring in Germany. Eighteen riders lined up at the start of the main race, but only ten crossed the chequered flag, with riders like Marco Bezzecchi, Pedro Acosta, Johann Zarco and Fabio Di Giannantonio finding themselves in the gravel trap.

- Marc now has an 83-point lead in the standings
Marc Marquez victorious as the rest of the field flounders
Marquez now has the second-most wins in MotoGP, behind only Rossi
Marc got the perfect start off the line in the main race, and for the full 30 laps, no one managed to even attempt an overtake. The Spaniard’s pace was fast and consistent enough that by the end of the race, he was over 6 seconds clear of the next finisher, his brother Alex. With this win, he has now officially scored more victories than Giacomo Agostini and is second only to Valentino Rossi, for the record of all-time MotoGP wins.
The German GP grid was already not at full strength, with riders like Franco Morbidelli, Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales not competing due to various health-related issues.
What made matters worse was that even more riders were ruled out of contention by the end of the race. Turn 1, in particular, caught many riders out, and of the eighteen who lined up, only ten finished the race. Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio, both of whom held second place at various points, crashed out while trying to catch Marquez.
Ultimately, Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez, who were in the lower half of the top six, finished on the podium thanks to the crashes ahead of them. This surely came as good news to the younger Marquez brother, who was battling a broken wrist, and to Bagnaia as well, who has been struggling to find the form he had in previous years with the latest Ducati GP25.
2025 MotoGP standings
Marc Marquez scored his ninth victory at the Sachsenring this time around and has established a dominant 83-point lead over his brother Alex, who is second in the standings. Francesco Bagnaia, third in the standings, is a huge 147 points off the lead, with just one race to go before the lengthy summer break. The race weekend in question will be held at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic from July 18 to 20.
The Czech GP will mark the return of reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin aboard the Aprilia RSGP after months of being sidelined due to injury and amid strong rumours of the Spaniard wanting to leave the Noale factory come 2026. It will be interesting to see how the Martin-Aprilia saga unfolds in the coming months, as well as how quickly he can adapt to the Aprilia RSGP now that he is near full fitness.
