Petrol, diesel, CNG prices hiked for the third time in 10 days

With this latest revision, prices of petrol and diesel have gone up by nearly Rs 5 per litre.

Retail prices of petrol have been hiked by Rs 0.87 per litre in Delhi and that of diesel by Rs 0.91 per litre. The revised prices in the national capital, as of May 23, are Rs 99.51 per litre for petrol and Rs 92.49 per litre for diesel. CNG prices have also gone up by Rs 1 per kg in Delhi, now retailing at Rs 81.09 per kg. This is the third time in 10 days that prices of petrol, diesel and CNG have been hiked.

Petrol, diesel and CNG prices hiked again

Taking into account the hikes on May 15, May 19 and the latest revision on May 23, petrol and diesel prices are now more expensive by nearly Rs 5 per litre. Retail prices of petrol and diesel in Kolkata continue to be some of the highest in the country, now costing Rs 110.64 and Rs 97.02, respectively. This represents a hike of 0.94 per litre for petrol and Rs 0.95 per litre for diesel. Petrol prices in Mumbai have gone up by Rs 0.94 per litre, now costing Rs 108.49. After a hike of Rs 0.94 per litre, diesel retails for Rs 95.02 in Mumbai.

Similarly, diesel prices in Kolkata are amongst the highest. The price of diesel in the city as of May 23 stands at Rs 97.02, reflecting a hike of Rs 0.95 per litre. This is followed by Chennai, where diesel now retails for Rs 96.98, which is an uptick of Rs 0.87 per litre. Check the table below for more diesel prices.

The price of CNG in Delhi has been hiked by Rs 1, and now costs Rs 81.09 per kg. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the state-run gas company, has also revised CNG prices for several other cities across the north and north-western regions of India. As per the rate card published by Mahanagar Gas Limited, CNG prices in Mumbai remain at Rs 84 per kg, after its previous hike from Rs 82 per kg on May 15, 2026.

Petroleum prices have remained volatile across major parts of the world. This is a crisis that’s deepened with the ongoing Middle East conflict and uncertainty in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
