The Range Rover Evoque is Women’s World Car of the Year 2012.  In second place, is the BMW 3-series, while the Audi’s Q3 SUV bags the third prize. This is the fourth edition of the award series since its inception in 2009.

The criteria for choosing the Women’s Car of the Year are simple – judges are asked to vote according to the criteria women evaluate when buying a car. There are four categories in the awards structure.  Judges award points for every car from a voting criteria and the car with the highest number of points wins that category.  The car with the highest number of points overall wins both the category and the main award.

Autocar India Show’s editor Renuka Kirpalani along with motoring writers from 12 other countries comprised the group of judges for this award. The voting procedures were audited by an international accountancy company, Grant Thornton.  Director, Paul McCormick, says it was a close-run race but there were some clear leaders in each category as votes arrived.

“The results for second and third, however, changed back and forth. With each addition of votes the differing opinions from the judges changed the results with every entry.”

This year’s trophy for the Woman’s Car of the Year will be made in the Netherlands. The category-winner certificates will be presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile – The Paris Motor Show - in late September.
