BMW F 450 GS patent filed

Reveals some key design details.

For the uninitiated, the BMW F 450 GS concept was first unveiled at EICMA 2024 and later showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. Soon after, a test mule was spotted testing in India.

We had previously reported that the bike would likely launch around the end of this year. Now, judging by the latest test mule, it seems the TVS-BMW partnership is on track with its launch timeline.

This particular test unit was spotted testing in Europe and reveals more design details than before. For starters, it retains the quad-LED DRL setup, reminiscent of the R 1300 GS/GSA. However, unlike the concept, which featured back-lit ‘GS’ branding at the centre of the DRL, the production-spec mule gets what appears to be a vertically stacked, dual-chamber headlight with layered bodywork.

Above it sits a fairly tall windscreen, which doesn’t seem to be adjustable but includes an air inlet to improve airflow around the rider, just like the current KTM 390 Adventure. The mirrors and indicators seem to be carried over from the outgoing G 310 GS, and the bike continues to use a golden USD fork and a rear monoshock similar to the G 310. Notably, its exhaust can appears to be much smaller and sleeker compared to the G 310 GS. Along with this, there is a bolt-on subframe and a gentle curve on the swingarm.

The bike rides on alloy wheels – likely 19-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear – wrapped in road-biased dual-purpose tyres. Spoked wheels may be offered as optional accessories. The riding posture appears spacious and neutral, in line with typical ADV ergonomics, and it also features split seats.

In addition to the test mules, images of its patent filings in the UK and Europe have also surfaced online, further supporting our observations about the final design.

In terms of electronics, expect the F 450 GS to feature a TFT display, a bi-directional quickshifter, or possibly a more cost-effective version of BMW’s new Automated Shift Assistant that debuted with the R 1300 GS.

BMW F 450 GS price expectation

Could be priced around the Rs 5 lakh mark.

The BMW F 450 GS is expected to be priced around Rs 5 lakh. It will compete with both single- and twin-cylinder rivals, including the Honda NX500 (Rs 5.90 lakh), Kawasaki Versys-X 300 (Rs 3.80 lakh), upcoming CFMoto 450 MT, KTM 390 Adventure (Rs 3.68 lakh) and the Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 2.85 lakh-2.98 lakh).
