The CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Osamu Suzuki, has appointed his son, Toshihiro Suzuki, as president of the Japanese company’s car arm.

In 2011, Toshihiro Suzuki was named one of Suzuki Motor's four executive vice presidents, raising speculation that he would eventually become president. From 2001 to 2003, Toshihiro was assigned a liaison post with GM, which owned 20 percent of Suzuki. Before that, he headed Suzuki’s Iwata manufacturing facility. He was also a part of the production team at the Japanese automaker’s plant at Kosai.

The  long-term chief had earlier positioned his son-in-law, Hirotaka Ono to take up the role, but unfortunately Ono passed away in 2007. Osamu has been Suzuki’s president since 1978 and will continue his role as CEO and Chairman.
