Infiniti has revealed its new all-wheel-drive crossover, the QX30. Essentially the sister car to the Q30 hatchback which was displayed at the Frankfurt motor show, the production QX30 bears close resemblance to the QX30 concept that was showcased at the Geneva motor show.

At the front, the QX30 gets the company’s mesh grille design with chrome garnish along the upper and lower edges. The bumper is now a more conventional unit as compared to the one on the concept, and features a faux skid plate as well. The crossover looks similar to the production Q30 from the side, but gets a raised ride height and black body cladding. At the back, the QX30 is equipped with sleek LED tail-lamps, a sharply raked windshield and a prominent skid plate with integrated dual exhaust. Overall, the QX30 looks like a raised and beefed-up version of the hatchback.

The interiors of the car closely mirrors the Q30's. The crossover gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that acts as a command centre for various functions. In terms of safety, the QX30 has features such as adaptive cruise control, parking assistance systems and Around View Monitor.

The QX30 is expected to share engines with the AWD Q30. This means the crossover could offer the choice of a 168bhp 2.2-litre diesel and a 208bhp 2.0-litre petrol motor. The QX30 also gets a new suspension set-up with stiffer springs and a new anti-roll bar to keep the extra 45mm of ride height in check.

The QX30 will be manufactured alongside the standard Q30 at the brand’s Sunderland plant in the UK. It is expected to go on sale internationally in mid-2016 and will rival the likes of the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Kwid has the best ride and handling mix here. Tall 180mm ground clearance only adds to its SUV-like stance.

At 300 litres, the boot is as big as some much larger hatchbacks.

Kwid’s dog-leg reverse is unique.

Kwid’s touchscreen is a segment-breaking feature.

Kwid’s click-shut AC vents are cleverly executed.

Softly sprung Eon is comfy at low speeds, but gets unsettled as you go faster. It feels quite refined though.

A surprising amount of boot space.

Eon switchgear quality transcends the segment.

Eon’s gearbox shift action feels a little bit rubbery.

Eon window switches on doors.

Alto 800 feels the peppiest and nicest to drive. Ride a tad firm but good at soaking up bumps and potholes.

Small 177-litre boot is only good for a couple of soft bags.

Alto dials look plain, much like the rest of the car.

Alto’s flat cubby holds a bottle.
