The Toyota Prius, Mercedes E-class and Volkswagen Polo have been shortlisted for the World Car of the Year award 2010.

The three finalists were named by 59 jurors from a shortlist of 30 cars at the Geneva motor show. The jurors have specifically rated each vehicle in terms of overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance. These votes were tabulated and the top three finalists were chosen.

In the World Performance Car category, the Audi R8 V10, Ferrari California and Porsche 911 GT3 have all been nominated. The three cars up for the World Green Car award are the Toyota Prius, the Honda Insight and Volkswagen’s Bluemotion range.

For the World Car Design of the Year award the Kia Soul, Citroen C3 Picasso and Chevrolet Camaro have all been nominated.

Results of the prestigious award will be out on April 1, 2010, at a press conference held at the New York International Auto Show.
