Nissan Sway concept

The next-gen Nissan Micra for international markets will be heavily based on Nissan's Sway concept showcased at the Geneva motor show last year. The brand’s Executive VP, Trevor Mann, has also said that the new car's interior quality will see significant improvement.

About the production of the new Micra, Mann did not specify much, but also did not rule out the possibility of the car being manufactured at the company's Oragadam plant in Chennai. Currently, the Micra is one of the cars that Nissan exports from India, and Mann said, “I don’t think you can blame India for the perception of quality. You’ve got to blame the people who defined the product. The Micra’s not like that [suffers from poor perceived quality] because it’s made in India. We have listened to feedback and I think you will see a big difference [in the next one].”

It has also been hinted that the next-gen Micra will be bigger, and that could create market space for a smaller city car from Nissan.

Although it has been reported in the past that the Micra-replacement for India could be an all-new hatchback built to a low-cost structure and based on the current car’s ‘V’ platform, there is no official confirmation yet. However, if Nissan India manages to get the next-gen Micra, with all its sharp styling and better interiors, to India, it may be able to broaden the hatchback’s appeal.
