Honda has revealed the tenth generation of the Civic in Los Angeles in sedan and five-door hatchback avatars. The 2016 Civic gets new engines, a new chassis and sleeker styling. The US market also finally gets the Civic Type R, which will rival the 306bhp 2.0-litre Ford Focus RS.

The 1.5-litre direct-injected and turbocharged four-cylinder motor, which is the first-ever turbocharged Honda engine in the US is the main talking point. As per Honda, the new unit will roughly produce around 203bhp, that is 30bhp more than the current 1.8-litre engine. A 158bhp 2.0-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder engine is also available on the base trims of the Civic, with the option of a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

In terms of dimensions, the new Civic sedan sits 50mm wider, 25mm lower and 30mm longer at the wheelbase than the existing model, and Honda has managed to shave off 31kg from its weight as well. The increase in dimensions have resulted in a roomier interior and gets an additional 73 litres to the boot space.

The chassis features a new multi-link rear suspension mounted to the rear. The ultra-high-steel intensive construction has improved the body rigidity by 25 percent. The new Honda Civic gets optional LED headlights and a 7-inch high-definition Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Civic will be showcased at the upcoming Los Angeles motor show in November.
