Mercedes-Benz has revised its SLK roadster in international markets. The SLK now gets Euro 6 compliant four-cylinder engines and an optional nine-speed automatic gearbox for select variants.

The SLK 200’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (M271) is replaced by a newer unit (M274) that delivers 181bhp and 30.55kgm of torque. The power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The company claims that the car is now 0.4 seconds faster in the 0-100kph sprint with a time of 6.9 seconds.

The petrol line-up sees the introduction of the SLK 300 in place of the SLK 250. The SLK 300 uses the same engine as the updated SLK 200 but with an increased power of 242bhp and 37.74kgm of torque. The SLK 300 receives a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard and the company claims that the car achieves a 0-100kph sprint time of 5.8 seconds; 0.8 seconds faster than the SLK 250.

In the diesel line-up, the SLK 250 CDI is replaced by the SLK 250d. The car gets the same 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine generating 201bhp and 51.02kgm of torque. The engine, however, gets urea injection technology to reduce emissions. This sole diesel SLK comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The other engines in the Mercedes SLK line-up remain unchanged. The SLK 350 and the SLK 55 AMG continue to sport the same 3.5-litre V6 petrol and 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 generating 302bhp and 415bhp, respectively.
