Mahindra Thar 5-door to get refreshed styling, more features

Back in August, we brought you the first details about the Thar’s updated features list that also included a much larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latest sighting of the test mule in Ladakh gives us a sneak peek at the SUV’s updated design that will differentiate it more from the existing Thar 3-door. There's a different front grille with a unique slat design, and a horizontal separator in the lower half of the grille – a design element not seen on Mahindra SUVs before.

Additionally, the headlamps on this particular test mule seem to be equipped with LED projector units with daytime running lamps, and the fog lamps are also LED units as seen before. These design differences and better headlamp setup could make it to the production car.

At the back, too, the tail-lamp design gets different LED graphics from the Thar 3-door, however, the overall shape remains the same. There are talks of a different alloy wheel design for the Thar 5-door as well, however, there have been no sightings.

Another important feature addition seen on the Thar 5-door is the presence of a dashcam, which has been positioned behind the large infotainment screen. This is quite an unconventional position to place a dashcam and it would be interesting to see if this makes it to the production Thar 5-door.

A longer features list and more creature comforts are expected on the 5-door Thar. Spy shots have also confirmed that some variants will get a sunroof along with front and rear centre armrests.

Expect the Thar 5-door to go on sale early next year. Apart from the Thar 5-door, Mahindra is also readying a major update on the XUV300 compact SUV for a 2024 launch.
