Mahindra is working hard to bring a four-door version of its electric car, the e2o, to the Indian market. The e2o is a two-door, four-seat, all-electric city car made and produced by the Reva Electric Car Company. Last year, we had been the first to break the news that Mahindra was planning a four-door variant of the e2o. Now the first test mule has been spotted testing on the Bangalore-Hosur highway.

The test mule gets differently positioned tail-lamps which appear to be vertically stacked. This is in place of the two-door’s wrap-around units. The four-door e2o also gets an all-new and a more practical tailgate design.

The test car seen appears to have a longer wheelbase than its two-door sibling, which means there will be more room in the cabin. The car is also likely to get other styling changes as well, though some of the components will be shared with its two-door sibling.

Mechanically, the four-door e2o is expected to remain identical to the two-door in terms of range and running gear. However, our sources tell us that Mahindra is working on developing updated mechanical components and battery which would offer even more range. The car will also be exported to international markets.

Mahindra seems to want to use the four-door e2o to boost sales of its all-electric hatchback, as two-door cars in this segment are not received well by buyers in search of comfortable and practical four-door hatchbacks.
