Mercedes has started the local assembly of its C 220 CDI model at its plant in Chakan, Pune following a strong demand for the model here. The assembled model’s prices now start at Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) as against Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the CBU model. Mercedes has also announced that the C 220 CDI now gets up to 60 percent of its parts from indigenous sources.

Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “We are delighted that the ‘World Car of the Year’, the new C-Class, will now be ‘Made in India’ at our world-class production facility, here in Pune. The local production of the new C 220 CDI will continue the sedan’s success story in the Indian market.”

The locally assembled car will miss out on some of the features and equipment currently seen on the CBU variants being offered in showrooms. The locally assembled C 220 CDI now misses out on features such as mood-lighting and illuminated door sills. Other changes include differently styled alloy wheels and the centre console now finished in hi-gloss burr walnut wood trim.

Mercedes also announced the launch of its corporate leasing programme called Corporate Star Lease. Mercedes says that this programme will provide corporate clients with hassle-free and simple leasing solutions for cars under the employee car benefit programme.
