Budget hatchbacks are very popular in our market. They are easy to manoeuvre, affordable and have fuel-sipping engines. However, if you’re looking for a something sprightlier, and don’t want to shell out a big sum, there are a few options you could consider – the Maruti Alto K10, the Hyundai Eon 1.0, and now, the Renault Kwid 1.0.

Dimensions
The exteriors of the Kwid and the Eon are almost identical to their less powerful versions. While the Kwid gets sporty decals and a few new stylistic touches like the silver shroud for the ORVMs that the 0.8-litre car doesn’t, the Eon 1.0 is a barely noticeable 20mm longer and 10mm taller than its smaller hearted variants (the added height is thanks to bigger wheels).
Meanwhile, the Alto K10 sports a slightly different body than the 800 which does set it apart from the smaller engine car.
Between the three, the Kwid has a clear advantage in terms of length, width and wheelbase, which points to a more spacious interior than the competition. The Eon is second to the Kwid in width and wheelbase, but is the tallest car here. While the Alto is midway between the Kwid and the Eon in length, it’s the smallest among the trio when it comes to wheelbase and width. As a result, cabin space is identical to the lesser powered model.
Even in terms of practicality, the Kwid holds an upper hand thanks to its class-leading 300 litres of luggage space. The Eon and Alto K10 follow with 215-litre and 177-litre boots.
