Hyundai Motor India started the new year on a positive note with domestic sales in January growing 41 percent, while exports were up 43 percent. The company sold 52,635 cars in January 2010, compared to 37,171 units in January 2009 with 29,601 units being sold locally, which were its highest monthly sales since 1998. In addition the company shipped out 23,034 vehicles, mostly consisting of i10 and i20 hatch models to Europe.
According to Arvind Saxena, director, Marketing and Sales, “we have started the year on the right note and we hope the momentum will continue with the help of the stimulus package offered by the government.”
Hyundai sold 47,104 units in the A2 Segment consisting of its Santro, i10, Getz & i20 models. In the A3 segment which includes the Accent and Verna models, - 5,502 units were sold. However, its Sonata Tranform premium saloon managed to sell only 29 units, thanks to stiff competition from existing heavyweights like the Honda Accord and Skoda Laura. Car sales in January traditionally get a boost as buyers rush to purchase vehicles in the new model year.

Poll of the month
What do you think about E85 fuel’s Rs 82.12/litre price in India?
Good - Rs 20/litre cheaper than E20 is a big advantage
Bad - it should have been priced even lower
Doesn’t matter - there aren’t enough E85-compatible vehicles yet
