Honda Cars India Ltd has voluntarily issued a recall to replace the airbag inflators of 2,23,578 of its vehicles. The vehicles affected by this recall include the 2009-2011 Jazz, 2007-2012 City, 2003-2012 Civic and 2004-2011 CR-V. Unlike the Jazz, of which only some vehicles require the driver-side airbag inflator to be replaced, the other Honda models would need the airbag inflators on the passenger side to be replaced as well.
The maximum affected units are of the City, which had 1,40,508 units being recalled. The least affected is the 2004-2011 CR-V model which was at 13,073 units. Honda has recalled 15,707 units of the 2009-2011 Jazz model and 54,290 units of 2003-2012 Civic model.
The recall will occur in a phases, starting from October 12, 2015. Honda car owners can check if their vehicle is affected by this recall by logging on to the special microsite on the manufacturer's website (www.hondacarindia.com) and submitting the 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Honda has said that it will also contact customers directly during this period.
In May 2015, Honda had issued a recall for the 2004 CR-V and the 2003-2007 Accord models to carry out a preventive replacement of the passenger-side airbag inflator.
Please note: Some vehicles require both driver side and passenger side airbag inflator replacement.
