The Korea-bound Genesis EQ900, christened the Genesis G90 for international markets, was spotted undisguised for the first time ahead of its launch scheduled for December 9, 2015 in Korea.

The EQ900, the first offering from Hyundai’s standalone luxury brand, Genesis, borrows heavily from the Hyundai Vision G Coupe in terms of design language, most notably the hexagonal front grille and the generous use of chrome.

Measuring over five metres long, the EQ900 sports a 3,160mm wheelbase, while in its long wheelbase guise, the full-size luxury sedan spans 3,450 mm between the axles. The sedan’s construction makes extensive use of advanced high-strength steel, which is twice as strong as regular steel.

Engine options on offer will include three petrol engine options – a 329bhp, 3.8-litre V6, a 365bhp, 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 and a top-of-the-line 419bhp, 5.0-litre V8 engine. The engines are rated at peak torque outputs of 40.3kgm, 52kgm and 53kgm respectively. The EQ900 also gets an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the HTRAC AWD system as standard. The EQ900 also comes packed with driver aids like DAA (Driver Attention Alert), and HVCS (Hyundai Variable Control Suspension).

Following the EQ900 will be the G80 and G70 sedans, along with two-door sports coupés and a crossover. Upon its launch, the EQ900 will go against the S-Class and 7-Series sedans from  Mercedes-Benz and BMW respectively.
