Ford has launched the new Figo starting at Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol variant while the diesel Figo is priced from Rs 5.29 lakh. As is clear from the name, it is the new avatar of the Figo, and the hatchback sibling of the recently launched Figo Aspire sedan.

The new Ford Figo gets the same set of engines as the Aspire. This means buyers can choose from the 98.6bhp 1.5 diesel engine, the 86.8bhp 1.2 petrol unit, or the range-topping 110.5bhp 1.5-litre petrol. While the diesel and the smaller petrol motor come mated to a standard five-speed manual gearbox, the bigger, more powerful petrol engine comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. Great move by Ford to introduce the DCT gearbox at this price point; the only other hatchback to offer the tech is the VW Polo GT TSI, which is on the other side of the Rs 10 lakh mark.

The Figo is available in five trim levels — Base, Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. The 1.2 petrol and the 1.5 diesel is offered across the trim levels, while the 1.5 petrol comes only in the Titanium trim. Features on the top trim are plenty; the Titanium+ gets six airbags, ABS, climate control, height-adjustable driver seat, and alloy wheels. The automatic variant also boasts driver-assist technology like stability program, traction control and hill-start assist.

The previous Figo was a capable hatchback, and one of Ford's most successful models in the Indian car market. The new Figo will look to carry on that legacy as it renews competition with the likes of the Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10.
