Diesel cars to cost more in Delhi In a bid to generate extra revenue the Delhi government has proposed to raise the registration tax on diesel cars by 25 percent.

This means that small diesel hatchbacks like the Ford Figo and Maruti Swift will cost an additional Rs 4,000-6,000 while midsize saloons and SUVs upto Rs 10 lakh will cost around Rs 11,000-17,000 more. But the biggest impact will be on the cars that cost upwards of Rs 25 lakh, whose buyers will have to shell out an extra Rs 25,000 for their purchase.

Dealers we spoke to said that if this proposal is implemented it will mean that buyers will prefer registering their cars in neighboring Haryana, where rates are much lower. So if you’ve been considering a diesel car with a Delhi-plate for some time now, we’d suggest you hurry.
