Update: Hyundai Creta launched in India at Rs 8.59 lakh

Hyundai will officially launch its Creta SUV tomorrow. The new Hyundai Creta will offer buyers the choice of six trim levels along with three engine options — a 1.6 petrol, a 1.4 and 1.6 diesel. The 1.6 diesel engine will offer buyers the option of a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic. Bookings for the new SUV opened on June 20, 2015, for around Rs 40-50,000 and Hyundai claims to have received over 10,000 pre-bookings in less than a month.

Previously, we had revealed the features and equipment details of the India-spec car. And as with all cars from Hyundai, the Creta SUV will also come equipped with a long features list. To add to the charm, Hyundai will be offering a standard warranty of three years/unlimited kilometres on its SUV.
Once launched, the Hyundai Creta will compete directly against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra XUV500 and the Ford EcoSport. Amongst this bunch, Hyundai Creta will offer the longest standard warranty.

In the standard warranty department, Mahindra comes closest to Hyundai with a three-year/1,00,000-km warranty on its XUV500 SUV. Ford offers a standard two-year/unlimited-km warranty on the EcoSport. In comparison, both Renault and Nissan offer a two-year/50,000km standard warranty on their Duster and Terrano SUVs respectively.

While buying a new car, prospective buyers do consider the standard warranty offered by manufacturers.  A longer standard warranty not only assures a better ownership experience but also shows the manufacturer’s confidence in their brand new vehicle. For now, Hyundai clearly has the upper hand here, but it remains to be seen what Maruti will offer on its S-Cross.

However, Mahindra offers an extended warranty of two years/1,50,000km on the XUV500 which costs around Rs 20,000. Ford offers an extended warranty of two year/1,00,000km on the EcoSport which costs around Rs 12,000 for the petrol variants, and Rs 18,000 for the diesel variants. Renault and Nissan, both offer an extended warranty of two years/30,000km, for around Rs 11,000 on the Duster and Terrano. The extended warranty Hyundai plans to offer on the Creta SUV is unknown.
