BMW has started testing the first test mule of its upcoming X2. Based on the same UKL front-wheel- drive platform as the new X1, the X2 features a more coupé-like design similar to the styling of the
X4 and X6.
The prototype seen testing wore comprehensive camouflage, and had circular tail-lamps which are expected to make way for production-spec units as testing continues. The X2 prototype featured a four-door layout with a coupé- like profile with a receding windowline and a sharply raked rear windscreen. The prototype seemed to sport production-spec headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, while the oddly shaped wheel arches seemed to indicate a yet-to-be-complete production body hidden under the camouflage.
When it goes into production, the X2 is expected to share its engines with the X1, and like the new X1 be available as a front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
The BMW X2 is expected to make its debut sometime in 2017, after the production-ready concept is showcased sometime in 2016.
