BMW has introduced the updated 1-series hatchback in India. The 2015 BMW 118d replaces the slow-selling pre-facelift model and is now available in only one trim and a single diesel engine option as opposed to the multiple trims and diesel and petrol options offered in the pre-facelift model.

Measuring 4,329mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,440mm in height, the car is now slightly longer and taller. More noticeable are the reworked front and rear ends; the LCI front gets the more traditional wider headlamps with daytime-running LEDs as standard and a bigger kidney grille, against the droopy-eyed ones seen on the previous 1-series. The rear features wider all-LED tail-lamps. The sportier-looking bumpers on either ends add to the more aggressive styling.

Available in only the 118d Sportline trim, the facelifted 1-series gets the same, albeit a slightly more powerful 1995cc, turbocharged, diesel unit from the previous 1-series, producing 148bhp and 32.63kgm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The cabin of the refreshed model receives a revised infotainment system, piano-black finished centre console, chrome highlights on the radio and air vents and matte silver accents on the door-handles.
All BMW 1-series models will now get single-zone climate control as standard, with the option of a dual-zone system.

The new 1-series is priced at 29.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Thane).
