Like BMW's X1 Audi is in the process of finalizing assembly of the Q5 here in India. This will help Audi save on steep import taxes and increase its market share eventually. At present Audi assembles the A4 and A6 luxury saloons at Skoda’s Aurangabad plant. A new line will be setup which would have an annual capacity of 500 Q5s per year.

The existing Q5 is available in a 3.0 litre TDI and a 2.0 litre TFSI engine options. Audi is also looking at powering the car with a 2.0 litre common-rail TDI diesel which will produce 140bhp to 160bhp depending on the state of tune as it comes to India. With the common rail technology and twin balancer shafts the engine will be impressively smooth.

An option of a smaller engine would attract more prospective buyers as it would offer better fuel efficiency at an affordable price.
