Audi has planned a 10-model onslaught for India this year, with a host of new and updated models heading our way before the end of the year. One of these is the new A5, which will be offered in all three of its body styles in India when launched later this year.

Unlike its predecessor, which is only offered as the performance S5 Sportback, the new-gen model will be available in Coupe, Cabriolet and Sportback body styles in a bid to expand its presence in the segment.

Based on the new A4, the next-gen A5 could share much of the tech and mechanicals with the former. However, the petrol engine will be different as the 1.4 TFSI unit from the current A4 is not available in the A5 globally.

Internationally, the A5 is offered with a range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine ranges from an entry-level 190hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor to a more potent 252hp, 2.0-litre unit. The diesel model on the other hand is available with a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine or the larger 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel in two outputs – 218hp and 272hp.

For India, the A5 could be offered with the 190hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor alongside the 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine with both paired to automatic gearboxes. The automaker could also bring in the hotter S5 and RS5 models as well at a later stage.

When launched, the A5 Cabriolet will rival the Mercedes C300 Cabriolet with the Coupe and Sportback having no real direct competition in the segment.
