Honda seems to be preparing a facelift of its Amaze compact sedan for the Indian market. Spy pictures have emerged online showing the sedan with cosmetic changes on its exterior.

One of the older cars in the segment, the Amaze was launched in 2013 and became the first Honda in the country to receive a diesel engine. Over the years, the carmaker has updated the compact sedan with minor mechanical tweaks and added features, but nothing akin to a facelift.

Honda has revised the car’s front fascia making it more in line with the Mobilio with a wider grille, a thick band of chrome and a new front bumper similar to the unit on the Mobilio RS. Overall, the front-end styling is similar to the facelifted Brio that was spied earlier in January, but with the addition of chrome detailing.

Inside, the dashboard of the current model has been replaced by the unit introduced on the updated Mobilio revealed in international markets, and the India-bound BR-V. Honda could also add features to the car such as climate control and offer ABS and airbags as standard, to match its rivals.

Mechanically, the car is expected to carry forward unchanged and will use the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines paired to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, with the option of an automatic for the petrol model.

Honda is likely to launch the facelifted Amaze on March 3, 2016. When launched, it will compete against the likes of the Dzire, which underwent a facelift early last year, and new entrants like the Ford Figo Aspire and Hyundai Xcent.
