The trophy for the inaugural 2012 Autocar Asian Car of the Year (AACOTY) award, recognising the best new car from across the Asian continent, was presented to Peter Schwarzenbauer, board member, marketing and sales, Audi AG, today at the Beijing Motor Show. The editors of Autocar’s various Asian editions were present at the awards ceremony. Schwarzenbauer commented, “We are very pleased to have won this award especially as it has been voted for by so many senior editors at Autocar in Asia.”
The Audi A6 was selected as the winner from a list of 45 cars, with six of these making the final cut. The other five finalists were the Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Passat, Kia Sportage, Ford Fiesta saloon and the Volvo S60. The winner was chosen by a panel of 18 auto experts from each edition of Autocar published in the Asian region.
