The much-awaited fourth-generation Honda City has been launched at the Taj Palace in New Delhi today. The car was first showcased in November 2013 at its global premiere, also in New Delhi. The new Honda City is priced from Rs 7.42 lakh to Rs 11.10 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

The new Honda City shares virtually the same overall exterior dimensions as its predecessor, but the wheelbase has been increased by 50mm, and that’s served to free up a lot more space in the cabin. The boot is marginally larger too, at 510 litres. Honda has also given the new car a higher quality cabin, with a lot of premium design features too.

The big news, of course, is that the Honda City will now be available with a diesel engine option, which is sure to become the best-selling version. This version uses the same 98.6bhp, 1.5-litre diesel from the Honda Amaze. The company claims that in the City, this engine delivers an ARAI-certified 26kpl, which makes it the most fuel efficient car in the country. The petrol version, meanwhile, uses the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC motor from the previous City, albeit tweaked for improved low-speed responses. The diesel uses a six-speed manual gearbox, while the petrol is available with either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.

The new Honda City is available in five trims (E, S, SV, V and VX) in both the diesel and petrol manual versions, while the petrol automatic version will only be available in the SV and VX trims. Addressing criticisms of the previous Honda City, the company has given the new car a good spread of equipment across the various trim levels, while the top variants are seriously loaded with kit.

The Honda City petrol starts at Rs 7.42 lakh for the base manual E version, while the petrol CVT VX version costs Rs 10.98 lakh. The new Honda City diesel, meanwhile starts at Rs 8.62 lakh for the E trim, and goes up to Rs 11.10 lakh for the VX trim (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
